Yes you can, though this way is quite common and allows to get a very neat result, pulling on the thread avoids the center to look like a hole. It is tight.

This tutorial is so simple and to the point tysm for this. By any chance, do you have an idea of how to do this rose square but in a triangle? Would I just make half of everything to get the triangle shape and half the rose ?
