As a safety concern you should never use a miter gauge and a rip fence together. Good chance of kickback

Old timers would use old bolts and nuts in vinegar. The coffee just adds some more “brown” color. Test first as some woods it turns grey! But makes a custom look for sure

Easy to cut with hand saw 🪚 you can do it. Simple project that can be completed with hand tools. Machine makes it easier, but hand planer, saw, and simple hand tools can make it personal. If you add personalized touches and a back story from where it is made (where wood was harvested, village it was made… etc) it will add to the value as many will pay for being handcrafted. Great video. Thank you. Question - What size dry wall screws / anchors do you use to pass through 1.5" of wood? What about sawtooth hangers?

Sawtooth hangers would work… I just didn’t have any lying around and typically have boxes of screws. I think I used 2 inch screws and since they were countersunk into the wood they probably came out a good 3/4 - 1 inch. Drove them into anchors in the wall so it won’t pop off easily.

Would you recommend a clear coat over the stain finish?

Clear coat over stain would be good if you are using it in a damp space. I like minwax antique oil finish that hardens on the surface and isn’t really a stain. Comes in a red can… follow the instructions and it will change your life :-)

Screw it to the wall. I usually put a wall anchor in first

Says "be safe" but then uses a miter gage with the fence and not even a wide miter gage, so he gets even more janky assed by using a very narrow and tall piece of wood.....kickback is going to hurt this guy real bad real soon!!!

Yes. Always good rouse safety first. Sometimes when filming we remove the guard etc, so others can see. Good catch!
