Nice. Regarding the coping saw, you need to loosen the handle and rotate the blade so you can cut at right angles.

I stripped a 1995 VW Golf Mk3 down to a shell and am going to build it back as a widebody track car. I cut out the rear where the spare tire well was and am going to build a drop in box to hold a fuel cell. But I have no way to bend the 1.5mm sheet steel to make the box. KZbin has a dozen or more videos on how to make a sheet metal brake and I have watched several of them. When I watched yours, I was elated. That is exactly how to do it. Now I want to watch the video on how you made the battery box. Can you provide a link? Much appreciated.

Built my own real similar..but I used it as excuse to buy my first welder. $120 on Amazon..I was able to weld in place my hinges, handles and some back mounting plates in a fraction of the time it would've taken to drill, bolt in place. Just saying..it's a great tool and skill to add to your arsenal!
@CarsBikesandCoffee Жыл бұрын
I like your thinking. I have seen bought a welder, you’re right, in less time then drilling.
@laurensiemens14363 жыл бұрын
Great video....I was thinking if you used a longer set of bolts for the top angle that holds down the metal you can convert this brake into a pan brake. by the way I really liked this idea. cannot wait to get back to work to build this.

Finally had some free time to make this. I'm up to the angle steel part which holds the sheet down. I thought I had some but it turns out I don't. Is there an alternative hold down method? Every tutorial seems to use the same hold down. Any help is appreciated.
@CarsBikesandCoffee4 жыл бұрын
+Ace unless you have maybe square tubing. That part needs to be really strong to hold down the edge of your metal to bend it. That’s why the angle iron is used.
@Ace-zb5xr4 жыл бұрын
@@CarsBikesandCoffee I have square tubing but it would prevent me from making a 90° angle since a sheet needs to be over folded to get a true 90°. Can I use wood?
@CarsBikesandCoffee4 жыл бұрын
+Ace yeah, that’s the other main reason to use angle iron. You could cut the square tubing in half. Wood will give, but depending on the thickness and size of what you’re bending it may be fine, give it a try. Good luck

@@CarsBikesandCoffee Fantastic. That's similar to the solution I came up with, I was worried the extra holes might interfere with regular bends. Not sure why no one else has made theirs like that.

Wouldnt a piano hinge work better just asking not judging
@CarsBikesandCoffee3 ай бұрын
I suppose you could, my only concern if the gauge of metal would possibly bend the hinge if it was too thick. The other thing is piano hinge are typically long, so you still would want the sheet to feed through between. Thanks for watching!

What you think is the max thickness to be bendable?
@CarsBikesandCoffee5 жыл бұрын
+EMU4WD depending on the width your trying to bend and metal type. I was able to bend some small pieces of 16 gauge steel. But if they were larger it would need some bracing to support the center. Thanks for watching!
@dberry995 жыл бұрын
Why is the top bar mounted at 45 degrees?
@CarsBikesandCoffee5 жыл бұрын
+dberry99 it gives a little better “bite” and holding strength into the piece you’re bending, but it really is helpful when you need to bend tighter then 90 degrees.
@spoopy29725 жыл бұрын
will it bend 3mm?
@scott27355 жыл бұрын
Not a chance, we have a clarke sheet metal folder in work and that's only 500 to 600 long and that will only just bend 2mm but the bends not sharp it's more like a curve. I'd say the max on something like this would be 1mm
