This is how a video needs to look like. Very well made. I have made 2 rings like this. One with crushed turquoise stones and one with some other stones, don´t remember there names. I used superglue because i didn´t know about the resin at that time. Now i own a Photon printer so i know what resin is. I wish i own a small lathe like yours. I had to file my rings with hand. Good job.

GomeowCreations I tend to made pendants with crushed pyrite, selenite, flowers and other natural items I can find foraging. That’s how I started making jewellery, but now I’m using my metal smithing skills combined and making the bezels etc., so combining the two is great fun. However, I always use super clear slow curing resin, I haven’t tried the UV stuff yet. I have a UV curing lamp that I used to use for my nails(!) do you think that would be strong enough to cure it in order to file it?

@@tealdreams If you aren't doing metal work and would like to, may I say - just jump in! I began with the bare minimum in a corner of the basement with a working window, and used a small torch similar to one used in cooking- you can make great things with minimal tools at a small table in a room with ventillation - that's the only restriction - the fumes from soldering require ventillation. Now, 6 years into it I've got a great set up that allows for more creativity and ability to work with a greater variety of materials - but I almost never started because I thought I needed a designated work area and a ton of tools (the Beaducation channel on youtube shows how to get started making great pieces with minimal tools and space). I encourage anyone who is fascinated by metal work to give this a try. Wire cutters, hammer, pliers, a small torch, and sand paper - I think thats all I had in the beginning and it was enough to keep me busy the first year. Best wishes to anyone who's thinking about taking up this craft! Thank you GomecowCreations for an excellent video!

I adore opals! Seeing they are so fragile, I’ll keep this use for them in mind if I do accidentally crack one during a setting :) Thank you for the inspiration! Question: How did you make the 925 stamp inside the ring? Was it done with a machine? I can’t imagine how to hammer it in with the ring’s band being in the way!
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 жыл бұрын
That is a good idea for cracked stones haha. As for the 925 stamp, it was done by hand with a hammer 😅 I have this stamp amzn.to/2IJ3KD2 It has a bend in it so you can put it on the inside of the rings. Make sure to add this before you but the outer bands on or you will have to support the center of the band when you hammer it, that is what I did for this ring because I forgot to add it haha. Also make sure you only hit the stamp once with one good hit see that if you hit it more than one time you will run into problems, the stamp will likely not be in the same spot and it will get two 925 over layed and look bad.

Thanks and you can fine used lathes like this one or even better ones for like $400-$600. I think this lathe new is $600. If that is just too out of your price range you can always do this by hand like I did in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWOtfIJrhcydrck

I can't thank you enough! I've watched your channel for two days, it's exactly what I'm looking for, so thanks a lot for your efforts and sharing your experience with us. I have a question, I'm using UV resin to make jewelry but I suffer with polishing it, nothing works for me -such as flitz polish- ! In this video, you used polishing compound, Is it white colour? Is it sufficient to use it alone after sanding? What about green? Which is better? or if you have videos or other methods that will help me, tell me about it please. hope you will read this and answer me ):

So polishing this resin can be a pain in the ass. Let me see if I can explain this. 1. Sand the ring first there all the grits. 2. I use this on all the metal parts amzn.to/2CDwq0c 3. I then used this amzn.to/3fY5lTS to polish up the resin on my lathe, you can also use it on the inside if you like.

Thank you! Your videos are informative and useful. I have a lot of small Welo opal chips I have been saving. What a great use for them. I hope the resin doesn't affect the opal because it is the hydrophene type of opal. I think the stuff you were using was man made?

Hello, your videos have really been helpful to me on my journey. I'm wondering if you can tell me what gauge your sheet of silver is in this video, as well as the square wire. Thanks
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 жыл бұрын
I think I used 22g sheet and 16g square wire but I do know that the sheet metal is 0.6mm and the wire is 1.3mm 😅👍

Great video, would using smaller pieces of opal would help eliminate the larger voids where there is just resin?

Nice video, and I may have missed this, What is the benefit of the Resin vs CA glue? Benefits of square wire vs round wire?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you and resin vs CA.... Guess if I had to point out one thing is that I can polish CA easier and UV resin can be cured with light really fast so you don't have to deal with different chemicals. Round vs square wire, square works best for this because it lays flat on the inner band and makes it easier to solder it all with no lines or holes

Commenting this while I'm watching, so it might be explained later, but... When soldering the first piece on, would it work just as well to have the outer ring on the bottom and rest the solder pieces on that? Just to keep everything flat so the outer ring doesn't slide down?

That was incredible , and the outcome is beautiful. Question : if you don't have a lathe (which many of us don't have) how would you set up a flex shaft , to get the same results
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 жыл бұрын
Quick answer: put hand piece in a vice, jam ring onto something so it can spin, mount in handpiece, Done. Long answer: hey, thank for your comment and I'm happy you liked it. I know that a lot of people don't have a lathe but I have shown how to make a ring like this without a lathe or even putting it on a flex shaft haha. But it would be easier to put this on a flex shaft. So there might be a couple ways to get this on the flex shaft but first you will need a bench vice to hold the hand piece. When you put thing in the video be very careful not to make it too tight because you can bend/crush it and this will mess it up. Once you have it set up you can use some kind of round wood that you can put into the ring that has a snug fit. To mount the wood to the shaft you can drill a hole in it and put a long nail through it. I would glue the nail in place in side the wood. This should work and you might be able to come up with something that might be easier or better for you.

Since you have a lathe, would it be easier (less soldering and sanding) to carve out a center channel from a thicker band, then back-fill it with the glitter and resin of your choice?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can do that but your will have to make or find some 2mm sheets of silver to do this and you going to want to collect the silver metal chips to melt back down into more workable silver.
