Thank you Skyler. Yes I’ll be making one (or more) of these soon. I do recall watching another video you made with a box that had, what looked like a lotus flower on top. Where do you have the plan/pattern for that?

I’m not sure why you can’t use the “outside” of the board as the outside of the box. In that way, you will guarantee that the grain will match all around the outside. Any differences in thickness due to the resawing process will only impact the inside of the box when sanding to the final thickness.

Grain patterns change throughout the thickness of the board. If you take a 1 in blank of wood and you look at the outside grain on both sides you will see they are very different. The idea is that the inside of the board once resaw, those sides used to be right next to each other so the grain is very close
