Looks almost big enough for us Americans! lol. Just needs a cup holder, bluetooth, and blinkers. For the blinkers, there is no need to have them functional. Just hide a BMW logo somewhere on it. Truly like the design. Functional and buildable. Thanks!

My 2 cents: The corners tabs could be a bit longer with a hook kinda thing so that you could cut out a "lock" It would be a strip of wood with slotted holes in it and then you just put it on those tabs which has a slight angle to help slide it in tight and then tap with hammer to lock in place. A bit of glue would keep it in place for ages. This in place of the zip ties. Off the top of my head I can not think of what you would call that. Yet a super cool seat. One could make several of those for their shop/bar stool as well. Super project and super seats. I super like it! Love it! Awesome!

Long ago I built a couple of recumbents. I used seat belts to make myself a seat. Basically they were two parallel straps the length of my back. These straps had small loops sewn to either end. At shoulder level these were hanging from a horizontal piece or stainless steel tube that made part of the bicycle’s frame, and down below they were fed through two slots in a piece of plywood to sit on. Loops fed through the plywood and then a piece of pvc tube fed through the loops, preventing them from moving back through the slots in the plywood. I hope you can picture that. The front end of the plywood had the same sort of attachment, but in stainless steel. A piece of closed cel rubber foam placed on top of the plywood. It proved very comfortable: the two straps provided a 100% counterforce to my pedaling, yet followed the movements of my back perfectly.

Thank you. Yes, I did consider that but I magine getting the tension right is tricky? Like a deck chair - very easy to slide too far forward?

I get your concern, but no, I encountered no troubles of that kind. Gravity keeps me on the plywood board for about 50-60% I would guesstimate; the rest is for the straps. When I put power on the pedals I push against the straps that always comfortably follow the curvature of my back. In all, I am always solidly lodged in this seat. The plywood part that hinges from its front end, slopes down from there. Pushing back against the straps causes that end where the straps are attached to be raised slightly, but never past the horizontal, and as you push, there is never any chance of sliding from the front end. I don’t remember how I got the dimensions… there is nothing to be adjusted, they are just right. I would advise to improvise a stationary version to try things out. Can be very houtje-touwtje.

I like how appears to be a design where CNC is really a luxury, as it seems like every step could be done with a jigsaw, holesaw and router. All by hand, just making extra effort to mark out properly on the plywood.

If you heat thin plywood to 300° degrees Fahrenheit it softens the glue and allows it to be formed into curved shapes over a form. Once cooled it retains the shape. All those mid century Eames plywood chairs used that technique.

That is a good way and any oven will do. Put baking dishes of water on the bottom rack and the plywood on the middle rack. you will need to have a pattern set up to clamp the plywood to while it cools and drys. Nothing fancy as long as it holds its shape. For Tim's mail order plans I think his method works best for it. Cheers 🇨🇦

My late father enjoyed taking his squadron on off duty trips whilst serving in the RAF in WW2. He had the use of an american civilian 14 seater plane, twin engine and controls which had leather armchair seats for pilot and co-pilot.. The open fuselage was fitted out with wicker tables and chairs, like a cafe, all secured. It was great fun but not so exciting as flying the DH Mosquito on recce missions! Great progress and thank you for posting.

Tim, I so enjoy listening to your voice. Both you and Sandra have such soothing and emotive voices - have you ever considered voice-over work? Reading children’s stories, for example? Don't know if you've thought of this, but putting in a board under the seat running across the car port to starboard would give you a handy storage area under the seat that would keep things from falling in out and give you some lateral strength and rigidity for the car too. Just a thought! Always enjoy seeing your videos in my feed.

Honestly I think your plywood seat looks better than the aluminum ones (especially if you put a nice finish on it) but that's just my opinion, lol. An aluminum seat would look pretty cool too. You might have better luck bending plywood if you build a box that steams the wood for a while instead of just pouring hot water and trying to bend it right away. Steaming it will also ensure that the whole plywood piece is evenly soaked and will bend evenly.

Grate work. But may i just say that whenever I use cable ties i cut the loose ends off with a craft knife flush with the buckle to prevent sharp edges

Hello, I have been watching your videos for years! I love the car project!! Sadly i don’t know much about this topic but I sure learn a lot and I am thankful for that! One question: is there gonna be a new video about the monorail? I loved it! It motivated me building my own railway. All your railway videos are great! But especially the monorail has me devastated. I am 15 years old and money plays a big role for me so the monorail is great that I have made it too! this leaves me interested how is Chris? And his monorail? thanks Tim for all the videos. very nice, solid work thorrowly thought abut and than mostly improvised because thats the best way to make things .) i am no wood expert but i would think that from what i know bamboo would possibly be better to work with - especially when it comes to bending. no clue if it is sturdy enough tho. probably can grow a patch to find out almost anywhere.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't just reuse an old metal seat from some farm implement. As I'm sure you know well, those seats have contours that make them less painful to sit on. It would be interesting to somehow replicate that shape by steaming your plywood and pressing it into shape. That wouldn't work very well for the kit idea though. Easy to armchair engineer! Love seeing your videos !
