I’ve been looking for a rounded scoodie tutorial for awhile. This is great! An added bonus for me is watching the way you use your thumb. I need to learn to keep mine as relaxed as yours. I’m sure that will relieve much of my thumb pain.

Thank you! I hope you enjoy making it. Everyone seems to have a different way of crocheting, I hadn't really ever thought about the way I crochet until I discovered crocheters on KZbin. I hope you find a way to crochet that doesn't hurt your thumb so much.

Having found this pattern a while back, I'm just now making my first. Oh my goodness!! I'm absolutely loving it. This is my kind of pattern, which is just as much about the options, as it is actual pattern. I adore options. This one will go to someone who was very kind to me and sent me a surprise Valentine box of goodies. So, I'm sending her a surprise scoodie in her favorite colors. She and I have never met. She lives in a much colder climate than I do and she loves gardening and flowers. I digress. Thank you for this lovely pattern. It's working up beautifully using 2 strands of CYC #4 acrylic and a 7 mm hook, hdc stitches. When her scoodie is finished and mailed, I will make one for myself, perhaps in a cotton blend.

Just another quick thought, if she has particularly bushy hair that takes up a lot of space, you *might* want to do more rows of increases before starting the rows with no increases - but the hood is quite baggy/loose fitting already if you follow these instructions.

That's a really good -pattern for crocheters who are not sure of doing patterns yet. This is a nice basic scoodie that a beginner can tackle or if you have a particularly lovely yarn that doesn't need a pattern stitch to show it off.

+Jan Carruthers Yes indeed. This is why I like videos that go with a pattern for people who are still learning to read patterns, helps enormously. This yarn doesn't look particularly exciting but is great for doing a video. For myself, I'd choose a variegated yarn of some sort or several colours of different yarn.

I'm a new crochet beginner. Thank you for sharing this, I have one problem as I do the circle where is requires 2dc in each chain, mine seem to curl up. Could it because I might be making two many DC stitches in each
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 6 жыл бұрын
The first time you get to the loop, you'll put 8dc into the loop (not the chain stitches) - unlike the straight sections which are worked into the chain stitches. Next time you come to the circle section, you'll put two dc stitches in each dc stitch from the previous row (six pairs around the curved section).

Hi there this looks what I have been after but dont wish to do it as thick I have ARAN 10ply i think that is so is there a way of adapting this patter to suit also want to use a size 5mm hook. Any help re this would be great :)
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Anna. You can follow this pattern exactly with different yarn and/or hook. There is a system (pattern) to the way the increase rows work. So, if you are using a thinner yarn, you would just need to add more increase rows to get the same measurements or fewer rows if you are using a heavier yarn. Hope that makes sense.

just finished my hoodie I was wondering if it could be shorter length wise? instead of 35 chains make 30 chains for a shorter neck?
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Erika. yes - it should be easy to make the height less from the bottom of the scarf at the back to the top of the hood by reducing the number of chain stitches (this will alter the stitch count for each row while working on the main part of the project).

loved your video, it is very easy to follow especially since it is the first time I've done a scoodie but was wondering how long or how many rows are the scarfs
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Erika, so pleased to hear you found it easy to follow. Do you have the written pattern? This might help you decide how long to make the scarf. I don't think I have the item any more that was in this video so can't check that one. It's entirely up to you how long to make the scarf. There doesn't seem to be a standard length for scarves.

Love the video and pattern! You mention that we can use different stitches. If I wanted to do DC then SC all the way around, how would the increases go?
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 7 жыл бұрын
If you want to alternate dc and sc stitches in the same row, you'll end up with an interesting texture but will probably still work with the pattern, just alternate the dc with sc while still following the pattern of increases (so you'd have one of each stitch in the same stitch of the row below). I cannot say for sure as this may need some experimenting. If you were to replace all the dc with sc or tc, that would be more straight forward but obviously you wouldn't get the textured effect.

Hello... If I wanted to add a different colour rim to the hood to make it tighter around the face, how would I do that?
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 7 жыл бұрын
There are several ways of doing it - try using a smaller hook size and maybe different stitches and it depends if you are doing it before you finish making the hood section or adding it afterwards. If you are doing it before you finish the hood section, change colour enough stitches up to allow for the width of the scarf and change back to the original colour on the other side corresponding to the first side. If you are doing it afterwards, just crochet around the front of the hood with a smaller hook (if that's possible with your yarn) and find convenient spots to attach and finish on each side.

@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 6 жыл бұрын
You may be able to substitute all the dc stitches for sc stitches but as it's not been tested using only sc stitches, I can't be 100% sure it'll work perfectly. You will need to have more rows with increase stitches though as sc stitches are shorter than dc stitches.

if you want to go bigger to you go 4dc in between the 2dc?
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth, thanks for the question. If you can see visual pattern of where the 2dc increase stitches are, just follow that up to the next row or rows (depending how much bigger you want to make it) and you will have one more stitch between the 2dc increases each row. So, yes, you are correct, row 6 would have 4 dc stitches in each stitch between the pairs.

Thank you for the pattern. I want to make a scoodie for my granddaughter she is tall and have lots of curly hair. She cannot keep a touque on her head so a scoodie would be the answer. I realized after starting the scoodie that it would not be long enough. I figured that 15 more chains would get it pass her shoulder and give it more a a slouch. The question is, in the circle do I still put 8 DC or will I need more? I thank you in advance
@24caratcrochetCoUk
@24caratcrochetCoUk 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Evelline. There are only two things you might want to change. You've got the first one - making the chain longer so it goes further down at the back (or effectively rides up because of her hair). The other thing is, you might want to just have more rows in the hood just in case it doesn't come forward enough which might happen if her hair takes up a lot of space in the hood. There should be no changes in the circle at the top, i.e. stick to 8 stitches around the circle. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I have a problem in second row. After 35 dc, the next stich is 2 dc in each 8 dc in row 1,right? Then it suppose to be 16 dc in the circle,right? Because if I made 2 dc in the next stitch (6 times) then there are 2 stitches in the center without 2 dc. Is that right? I little bit confused and stuck in this second row in the center.

@24caratcrochetCoUk

It will mainly depend how long you want to make the Scarf. Two skeins of the yarn I used (Lion Brand Homespun) will be plenty and I think I used about 300g so up to 350 yards of yarn should be plenty. There are lots of things that can make a difference to the amount of yarn you use, including your tension.

Hi Betty Ann. I haven't been able to make one in different sizes so you will need to experiment. I would suggest you try 25 chains after the the circle of 4 chains and see how that looks.

I don't understand why you don't have the same amount of stitches going down each side. I'm only coming up with 81 stitches instead of 82 for the 2nd row. Can someone help? Thanks

Are you working your last dc stitch into the base of the ch2 from the beginning of the previous row?

Thanks for answering. Yes I did that, but it says do 35 dc, 2 dc in the next 6 st, then 34 dc. That adds up to 81 st so I'm confused. Are you counting the ch 2 at the beginning as a st even though we don't work into it? That's the only way I can come up with 82 st

A ch2 at the beginning of a row is normally counted as a stitch in many patterns. It's a while since I wrote this pattern. So maybe that's it?

I think so and it comes out with the correct amount that way. I wanted to do hdc instead of dc but I saw where you said you did 5 increases instead of 6 and I couldn't figure that out. lol Thank you.

Is this long enough for a man about 5’ 10” tall?

The length of scarf is personal preference. As a general guide, a scarf could be made the same length as the height of the person it's made for. Hope this helps.

I started but will not continue with your video, because the video images are unclear, you can't really see well what you're doing. This should be a beginners work this scoodie? Not really! wish you did all the stitches in front of the camera, now it's inconsistent and because the video is not clear I need to interpret/figure out what exactly you mean, and just try...Also when you put the 1st stitch marker in?? You're not showing and telling exactly WHERE specific one should put the stitch marker in? Pfff sorry no time or patience for this messy video. I hope i find a more clearer Scoodie tutorial here on YTube. Thank you for your effort anyways.. At least i made a start with it..

@@24caratcrochetCoUk Sorry for my critique (my hormones are raging..) I do love your design a lot, so will try it again, in the future though. Now I try another Scoodie tutorial. Thank You for you time and for the effort. Blessings

@@hcpunkrockhxxx9247 No worries and thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated. Recording tutorials efficiently that are clear is challenging. I'm stretching my arms around a tripod and not crocheting in a natural position, over a table. Some extra things may involve making the video much longer and that has been an issue with people. The pattern and video are free. If I charged a fee, I would be able to invest in a better arrangement and time to make things even clearer. Your comment is appreciated.
