The best advice is to become good with what you have. No piece of gear can give you the skill you get from practice and learning. Having good tools can help but in a way I see it as a handicap that in the end can hold you back. If you're always relying on fancy gear instead of your own creativity you never truly grow. It's easy to fall into the idea that all you need is this one new thing and then you'll finally be good at making music. Endlessly collecting gear and never actually playing any music or making anything.
