Good afternoon, I saw your channel and checked it out. Very nice indeed, I just subscribed. We are expats from South Africa, been living in Huntesville, Texas for 33 years. I still have and use my #3 pot which I have had for 53 years. Brought it to Texas with us.

I would prefer to leave out the pasta and have the potjie with traditional pap or dumplings. Love the recipe though and can't wait to try it. It looks so yummy. One could probably add a little red wine to it I suppose.👌🇿🇦😋

getting ready to fire up the potjie this weekend and this recipe looks like straight fire! I turned a bunch of fellow South African that live in the States on to your channel this weekend at a Braai in Austin, Texas. Everyone made their own Borewors and we had a great time. All that was missing was a potjie pot. I'm working my way through all your videos, you are doing a great job preserving the culture thanks for taking the time to do it right.

@@WolkbergArtisans2019 Thanks for answering! I usual drink coffee from a normal Coffee Machine but that Italian Style Moka Pot creates Coffee that has a total different distinct taste. The only downside is it doesn't filter it good enough, and you end up with a pretty thick sludge in the bottom. That's why I am looking around for other ways to make Coffee. I think I have to give that ABCO vacuum coffee pot a go, if I can get a hold on one!

No red wine. No spicing the meat while browning. No frying onions. Pot not sitting even. Too much liquid initially. Adding more water with no stock. Pot is boiling. Should be simmering (can see the meat is kind of tough at the end). Whole carrots not chopped. No potatoes. No rice or pap. And PASTA!!! Damn bru. You really did a weird one here😂 but hey you know each potjie to each man is his own creation. I definitely would have had a good taste of that though

Using gas, or in your case, coal comes close to sacrilege... Wood fire is the preferable way to go. With the lid put on slightly skew, it allows some of that smokey flavour into the potjie...

@@WolkbergArtisans2019 Cleared cache on KZbin and it sorted it out 😁 ... off to get a tail or two asap hehehe... Don't have your SA Potjie pot out here in (Kenyan fan 🙂) but have a similar cast iron sub that should do the trick ... (I wonder if it's even nicer in a traditional clay pot? 🤔)...

Hi. I used a ABCO vacuum coffee pot. It works in combination with the top and bottom pot. This pot is definitely older than a few years, and still works perfectly.

Try it in a clay pot. There is no right or wrong way in cooking, only something different. Thanks for watching!

Angela said why the hell did you use shite canola oil when all that beautifull fats and flavours from the oxtail meat would have rendered down to brown the meat??

thats not a potjie, its stir fry,you dont stir a potjie and you dont add pasta, rice or pap with it,you make it separate, and pack your ingredients in layers, mushrooms last!

once u start stir is no more called potjiekos. its stew.. . u don't steer potjiekos at all.. meat at the bottom. then layers of vegetable. the only thing u stir is meat with spices .coz the steam must cook all layers of vegetables.

Waste of my time. The masalas are Indian, the Worcester sauce is English, the pasta is Italian. What is South African about this dish? The pot? Give me a break.🤣

That is what being South African is all about. A fusion of cultures and taste...

@@WolkbergArtisans2019 Pity. I like to think of countries and cultures in terms of their own food. Not imported influences. Like India, China, Japan, Madagascar, Tanzania, Italy etc etc.
