How to Make a Sprite into a Perler Bead Pattern for Free (Aseprite)

Let's set up sprites for Perler Beading for FREE!
First, find your sprites.
The Spriter's Resource is a great place.
Save your sprite sheet.
Download the trial of Aseprite and open up your sprite sheet.
Zoom in on the sprite you need and isolate it.
Once you cut it, open up a new file.
The parameters should automatically be set to go.
Press "OK."
After you paste your sprite, go to "View," click "Show," and go to "Grid."
If you need to, use the Paint Bucket to change the background.
Go back to "View" and go to "Grid," and then "Grid Settings."
For most pixels, if you change the width and height to 1 and 1, you should be A-Okay.
Now you have a gridded sprite to easily tell where to put your Perler Beads.
Take a screenshot and copy and paste it into Paint.
Crop out the edges if needed and save it.
Send it to yourself via email or upload it to Google Photos.
There you have it!
Now you have access to your own pattern.

@@BigBossRazz ya I messed around with the animation tool in aseprite a couple of days ago not to difficult to learn in a couple of days love the program itself like how you can design your own pixel art characters and objects I think it’s really cool strongly recommend if anyone has an afternoon or two off to give it a try

@@AnimationExpresss For sure. I think my favorite thing about Aseprite is that you can play with all of the tools and features FOR FREE with the trial version. You can't save any of your work with the trial version, but if folks like it, they can shell out the $20 for the program. Money well spent in my opinion!

@@BigBossRazz i have another question, i know some apps and webs can help you to pixelate pictures but they turned out to have so many colors that i dont have, what if there is a posible way that i can give the app some specific colors and it would pixelate my pictures to those colors only.

@@BigBossRazz It's mostly the same way as yours. Zoom in. Isolate the sprite that you want. Put it in another project, Go to view and click show grids...it is not going to show 1:1 grids right away. You then have to go to image menu then configure grid and set horizontal and vertical spacing to 1 pixel.

That’s a great question! One option is to double the canvas size so that every one bead is now a small square that is 2x2. You can double the size in Aseprite and keep the grid size to 1x1 and that should work.

@nataweezz Yep! You sure can decrease the size of any pattern, but most patterns/sprites will be almost a 1:1 conversion, so in most cases ya might be cutting certain parts out of the original pattern.

Im getting into perler art cause ive always made pixel art in games like terraria and minecraft. Ive made some massive things that take hours and i figured why dont i just do it in real life. Ive done it so much i dont even need the grids 😅. I plan to make some bigger things in the future so may i ask should I get a mini iron or a regular one?

a mini iron is good for smaller pieces but if u are doing larger pieces i would definitely buy a heat press which is a large iron bigger than a regular iron that u would use for clothing.

That depends on where you live! If you live in the states, Michael’s and Jo Ann’s along with other big box craft stores carry them. Some toy sections too. You can also order them from Perler’s website. You can grab coupons at the stores by getting their apps, and Perler sends out emails for discounts. Hope that helps!

@@shanellrodriguezdeoleo7829 it looks like opening a file depends on your phone. There are instructions here on how to load a file. Otherwise, you can set the size of your new pixel to be 29x29. That’ll be the size of one Perler Pegboard. You can add in multiples of that number for a larger image, like 58x58 for example. You can manually recreate the pixel on your app and save that image as reference.

Thank you for your constructive criticism! I will keep this in mind when making future videos. :) I do like making my own subtitles, but I'm still experimenting on where/how to place them. I'm open to suggestions! I think the original line of thought was that I was also going to post this on other platforms and if I make the subtitles, then I don't need to worry about manually using each platform's subtitles if that makes sense.
