Great jig. the only mod i made on mine was to cut the edges of the trangle bit to 45 degrees so it is easier to mark the tread material before you cut it also I made mine from aluminum so I can use a marking knife without fear of cutting them up over time.

Lance Mckinney thanks! I am glad to hear it works for you. Since I have made this jig, I’ve used it on numerous stair jobs. It hasn’t failed me yet.

I like the rounded tips of the wings. They would prevent the tips from falling into a crevice between the stringer and the tread or riser. On my stairs, the OSB does not go all the way across on the tread or the riser. There is about a 3/16" to 1/4" gap. Just enough for the tip to fall into when measuring. This throws off the angle. I thought it was my method of cutting the flooring that was causing a small gap on one side. After trying three different ways of transferring the angle and making the cut, I realized that the error was always the same. That's when I realized it was how the angles were measured. The tips of the tread gauge were falling below the line of the surface that I was measuring. When you line the tips up to the edge of your flooring to mark the line and make the cut, your angles are off just enough so that your cuts are not fully flush with the stringers. Those rounded tips would prevent that.

yep, it was the only way I could figure out how to get the proper angles of the stringers.

A little trick instead of using a pencil use a razor knife reason being that the width of the pencil like leaves room for error but the razor blade comes to a sharp point and you can cut right to that score mark and it be perfect every time

Job well done Wes. I really like the looks of your jig and would like to make one for my stair project. What size bolts did you use? Also can you give measurements of where you drilled your bolt holes and routered the slide arm slots? What size and how long are the slots in the slide arms as well? Thanks for the video, Jeff

The extra holes? They're for ventilation. Very important.
