Thanks so much for the video. I'm low on cash this year, so I'm making a couple of these for my mom and grandma for Christmas. I love it!

This is inspired. What a brilliant way to used thrift store crockery and not-so-pretty plates and bowls. I am making at least one, then again, Christmas is coming up....

If you need to use a wood dowel, a way to make the wood more durable to the elements is to paint it. Perhaps with a color that would accent the colors of your glassware -OR- use a wood sealer like Thompson's which comes in a spray can or paint on. This is particularly important for the part of the wood dowel that is in the ground or it will eventually rot. -OR- just keep replacing the dowel as necessary.

Glad that I found this video...had a few lovely figurines that I turned into "Garden Ladies" for my memory garden. Thanks so much for the great idea to use the old vases.

Are there issues of toxicity with the silicone, does anyone know? Beautiful. I came on the net to find what I can use as an adhesive and outdoor durability/toxicity are my two main concerns, primarily for when there is water in the dish, and birds!
@UpcycledStuff5 жыл бұрын
Once the silicone has cured, there's no danger to the birds or many other animals that will visit your feeder.

I was wondering what kind of adhesive to use. I think the silicone might be the safest for the wildlife perhaps? Nice video. I have been wanting to do something like this.

I made another bird feeder project that said to use the E6000 glue. Unfortunately, it DID NOT hold up. Fell apart after one day. Does the silicone last in the weather?
@UpcycledStuff9 жыл бұрын
+Samantha Harris Yes, absolutely. Silicone is what plumbers use so it's made to stand up to a lot of water exposure. E6000 is a fabulous adhesive for lots of other things but holding up to weather is not one of them. The "booze bottle bird feeders" that you see in the opening of the video are held together with silicone and have been in my yard for three years now without any trouble (through the winter too). Hope you'll make some more with silicone!

+UpcycledStuff Wow, thanks for the response and being so fast! I'll definitely try the silicone and let you know how it came out. I was soooo disappointed when my project fell apart the next day. Thank you again for the prompt response. Have a lovely, crafty day. :D

I used silicone and after 24 hours it had not set up. it was the liquid nails brand. what brand do you recommend ? it's still like it came out of the tube in 24 hrs
@UpcycledStuff9 жыл бұрын
+Pamela Zurfas hmmm....I wonder why it didn't set up. This is the one I use, www.lowes.com/pd_48285-72643-GE5040___?productId=1088919&pl=1&Ntt=silicone

You could weatherproof the wooden dowel by staining it and painting it with polyurethane or waterproof paint
@UpcycledStuff11 жыл бұрын
You sure could. I usually use PVC, then I don't have to worry about it but some of the bud vase openings are too narrow for the smallest diameter PVC.

GREAT minds...I make similar out of thrift store dishes etc and people just go WILD for them! If they break, not a fortune to replace with similar! Thanks!

Just remember that if it is hot outside and you move the items with 600 glue it will not set up. It needs to be in a cooler place than 89+ degrees.

Is it possible to use hot glue for these projects?
@UpcycledStuff8 жыл бұрын
I would NOT recommend hot glue for these outdoor projects. As the sun heats up the plates it will melt the glue and your project will fall apart. Some people have used E 6000 but after exposure to enough water that will also loosen. The only glue I recommend is silicone.
