Just had to come back and add... I can't wait to get into my sewing room and "do this"... finding you back when MSQC first began i would buy the DD almost everyday and get inspired... FF to today..I am using up my collection of "charms" . I make the "charms on point" quilt and sash/border it in this same manner.. I now have a NEW quilt design to help me use up all this stash! i'm sewing as fast as i can so i don't leave all this fabric "behind"... I'm 76 in June..:)

Since she cut the layer cake in 5" squares, you COULD use Charm packs for this!! I'd have to go back & count to get a total so you might need 2 matching Charm packs, but they would work!! Now more ideas are going thru my head 🤣🤣 Ok, I just cyphered & you'd need 4 Charm packs.

I like that you separated the colors into darks and lights then used the lights on the border. The darks in the middle do make the stars pop. Great tip!

Oh my goodness! What a way to start a Friday - my absolutely favorite colors and my favorite batiks!!!!! I put the layer cake into my basket right away so I’d be sure to have it!!!!!! Plus the digital pattern! And I thought it would be tricky to sew - but I know that Jenny would have a simpler way😄😄😄. I can see this pattern in so many different color choices and then making it a bit larger or even smaller - or a table runner size but for a wall hanging in those narrow places many of us have in our homes. I am so excited😄😄😄😄😄👍👍👍👍👍👍

The wonky legs are my favourite! So much easier than trying to get them perfect with fussy templates and it adds a touch of whimsy to the project. Thanks Jenny.

Very cute for a baby quilt. I think I would cut 3" squares of the white background for the star points and do the diagonal stitch and flip thing because I don't like wonky legs at all. Thanks!

I am a fussy quilter I guess because I could never piece like you. The quilt is very pretty though. That's the beauty of quilting with friends. We are all so different. I remember a quote from a friend who said it doesn't matter how you go around the block as long as you reach your destination

This is the VERY 1st time I have ever said I didn’t like the colors of the quilt Jenny featured in a tutorial. I’ve been watching enthusiastically since April 2011, and have enjoyed the color combinations until today, but hey I think that’s a great track record!!! I like Jenny LOVE star quilt anything!!! I have learned soooo much from Jenny and truly enjoy Natalie & Misty too.

One of the many beautiful things about quilting is that you can use the colors and fabrics of your choice. That’s what makes it YOUR quilt instead of someone else’s copied. Sometimes I don’t care for Jenny’s choice (not often) but even when I do like it I rarely use the same fabrics she does. I see it in the colors or prints that speak to me. I do love her choice this time but I’ve done so many quilts in the blue/green/purple that it’s time for a change. This would look good in Christmas colors too. So many choices!

To reduce bulk, trim the extra layers of fabric off the back after adding the 1st white wonky star point, and again after adding the second. There will only be 1 layer of fabric remaining, the same as when the 2 1/2" square is added at the center and excess layers trimmed away.🥰

Love this tutorial. You trim the white fabric off the wonky star to bring the block back to 5inches, is there a reason you don’t trim the wonky star leg base fabric off the back?

I would cut the extra off the back to eliminate bulk but that’s just me.😊

You'll find that if you don't trim the base fabric after you trim the white, the dark colors can show through the white on top. If you are scrappy with the colors this results in white "shades" that are different.
