Laura this is the best and easiest drawstring bag, I made 7 for laundry bags at Christmas as my family all go travelling, I even made my granddaughters friend one as they were going overseas together. I hadn't made myself one so I have just done that finally, I just use up large scraps. Thank you Laura.

My sister just asked me for one. Great teaching and clear and slow enough for us to follow. A funny thing I used, to pull thru the string was a bracelet buddy (an alligator clip with a stem to hold a bracelet to put on yourself while it holds the clasp) Thanks for posting this.

Thank you for a great video. I wanted to refresh my memory on how to make this kind of bag since it’s been awhile. Your directions were very clear and I liked that you added the piece at the end about sizing. The other thing I liked was the fact that you mitered your corners! I rarely see people doing this any more to their bags, but my grandmother would roll over in her grave if I didn’t miter and square up my corners for a neater look. Thank you 😊🙏

Hi Laura, This has to be the best tutorial I have seen for a drawstring bag. Some earlier ones I checked out were very unclear and the people explaining them talked way too fast and as a result I could not understand them. Plus, I love the Canadian accent which is way better than an American accent!

I’ve made two of these over the last week, the tutorial was perfect. I tested it out on a small size first (made a perfect sized bottle bag) then went on to make large laundry bags, with names added using my embroidery machine. I really enjoyed making them and will definitely be making more. Thank you so much for the great tutorial. One thing I realised though, that you have to be careful not to glue the two sides of the casing together when turning the seams back. I found that putting a thick pen into the opening worked really well to keep the two layers apart 👍😁

Laura, I've done many of your projects without fail and always appreciate your thorough and clear approach. However, this self drafted bag to fit a specific size was a total bust and a waste of 2 hrs. even though I thought I left enough room for seam allowance and boxing of corners. What I don't think the instructions include is a solid explanation for the fact that boxing will remove width from the bag. I did a 3/4" box and that was enough to render my bag useless for its intended purpose even with using 1/2" seams. Will search out another pattern that explains the calculations more clearly for boxing of corners to make a very specific sized bag. Just made myself a shoe bag rather than a gift bag to fit another homemade gift so just didn't finish my gift today but got a small shoe bag.

She did not note a specific size bag, she gave a general explanation on how to put a bag together based on a design she felt comfortable with that she wanted to share with those looking for something a little different. My mother sewed for a living many yrs. ago and always said wash your fabric, press it, measure, be sure of calculations even if it is a pattern. The best thing about sewing and place your ideas into it to incorporate a finish project to your liking. I am glad you were able to see what you felt needed to change and shared it with others. The best thing about sewing is relaxation, creating, learning, and having excitement about your finished project to share with others. This is why sewing will continue for years and always be in the hearts of men and women. Overall, there is so much you can do with this pattern.

I've watched quite a few tutorials recently for drawstring bags and almost didn't watch this one because I didn't think it would be significantly better than the others. I was wrong and am glad to have watched it. I think the instructions were clear and everything was clearly demonstrated. I like that the exterior fabric was pieced, showing how easy it is to use scraps to make a drawstring bag. I like that there isn't any interfacing. I like learning how to tack those seam allowances at the casing down. I saw another tutorial using Steam-a-Seam in that area, and another recommended using a zig-zag stitch to tack down the seam allowances. I like your suggesting for using fabric glue. Would Fabri-Tac work? I have a bottle though haven't used it yet so I don't know what it's like. Another thing, the boxed corners are usually kind of time consuming to line up the seams and use a ruler to mark the stitching line. Cutting out a box at the corners makes it look so much easier. I'm going to make a bag following your tutorial and see how it goes. Thank you.

Fabulous method. Easy to follow. I have made a half dozen small bags mainly using my 12" quilting squares since you published this video although it took a couple of attempts to get a directional pattern the correct way up around the bag and to match stripes.
