How to Make a String Curb Chain Using the Fiador Knot

In this video we show you how to tie the infamous Fiador Knot and how to apply that knot to make your own curb chains. This is a pretty useful applications, but be warned. Learning the Fiador Knot is NOT for the faint of heart. Plan to make many mistakes and have to rewatch this video quite a few times. Most who attempt this take a few hours to get it right. So, Buckle up Buttercup!
To attach this to your bit, you'd simply use the Sheet Bend Knot. I am a very big fan of this type of curb for training because of its infinite adjustability. If you are unfamiliar with how to tie the Sheet Bend Knot, we've got a video for that too.

What is your average length of cord when tying?

I think about 2-2.5 feet. Maybe 3.

The chain is about 1/2 inch and the cordage is simply 550 paracord, so its diameter is 1/8 inches.

How do you suggest to tie the curbchain onto the bit? I've seen them tied on different ways.

Mary Croney for one made like this, I’d use a sheet bend knot which would make it infinitely adjustable.

I don’t know of any other knot that fulfills the requirements of encasing the chain and also leaves us with a tail and loop to tie to. I did lots of thinking and searching. Doesn’t mean it’s not possible, but I didn’t find a better solution than the fiador knot.
