HOW TO MAKE A SUBARU REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!!!

I advise preheating the metal before welding and using a fire blanket to let cool down to mitigate warping. I've seen some weld with the snap ring installed to avoid the metal pulling up when welding. Still a better product than a lot of them I have seen.

I've done it both ways, my first time was without the ring, it did raise and once the cover was torqued the trans wouldn't even spin, second one I left the ring and it worked a charm, then again i am not the best welder and was getting my moneys worth from this harbor freight pos. its still daily driven 2 months later

Sorry, i don`t understand it. Please can someone explain it? You weld the Ctr Diff together, so i think the Enginepower goes 50% to the Rear and 50% to the front Axle. You told us that: If you weld the Ctr Diff together the front Wheels are not powered. ?????? Greets

No. There is an adapter kit that is required to block off the rear output shaft and lock the trans in fwd mode.

Hmmm...Thats a good question. I'm sure that there would be some improvement not having to drive 4 wheels. If its significant enough to really notice though would be my question.

@@TheConservativeCanadian no worries. It shouldn’t set a check engine light. Also it’s a pretty permanent deal. To switch back you would need a second center diff that you could swap back in. That would mean tearing the trans down again and replacing the diff every season.

The front axles were removed. The stub shafts were retained to keep the wheel bearings happy.

You can't just remove the front axles due to how subarus front dif works. It puts the most power to whatever wheel is spinning the most. If you just pull them the car won't even move

The point of a Subaru is the AWD! If you want a rear wheel drive, then get a BRZ, S2000, Mustang, or a Corvette! I'm sure he want to drift with the rear wheel drive but you can still drift with AWD. With all the mods he put into that Legacy, it's pointless to have all that power and loose the AWD. That guy does not know what he's doing!

You ever seen Cristian's drift wrx hatch? These trans are glass, converting it to rwd and only pushing power to half the amount of wheels is a way of prolonging the life of these shitty transmissions.
