Now as someone who fishes regularly, I know that farmed tuna is pretty gross. Packet and canned tuna are like cat food. They are processed, cooked and packed on an assembly line. Much of it is highly processed and its a nightmare of a product. This, subway tuna, is not tuna. Yes, it might come from tuna factories, but many lab tests have failed to find tuna DNA. And as someone who is also in school for science, theres two reasons why here. A. Its not tuna or B. Its SOOOO highly processed that it just can't be identified. My bet is on the second one. I do believe it started at tuna, but I do not consider it, nor should anyone, tuna. Subway claims that the tests are invalid because "the cooking process denatures the protein too much to be properly identified" which is bogus. You can extract DNA from anything cooked. You can even extract DNA from CREMATED REMAINS as long as some bone is in tact. Super heated, charred, burnt to ash (literally) animal flesh still has identifiable DNA. Where does the Subway tuna come from? Tuna. Is it tuna? You technically have to say yes. Shoukd you consider it tuna? Absolutely not. If something organic is SO PROCESSED that no DNA can be identified off it, that is atrocious. "Look like, smell like, tastes like" is not a scientific nor accurate detailing process. Lemon heads: look like lemons, smell like lemons, TASTE like lemons. Must be lemons right?
@DeathBringer7693 жыл бұрын
There's no in tact bones here though. And DNA in tuna and chicken denatures at around just 70-100 degrees C, and this comes pre-cooked. So no, it's not as easy as you're making it sound to get accurate DNA analysis from cooked tuna.
@TheMilkMan80083 жыл бұрын
@@DeathBringer769 theres flesh. Cooked flesh. You do not need bones unless its cremated as I clearly said. Just because proteins are denatured does not mean the DNA is not able to be detected. It is absolutely easy as it sounds. We can get eDNA from just samples of dirt, water, plants or whatever and tell you EXACTLY what animals live in that environment. DNA is resilient and lasts even just in flakes of skin or old airs. Even microscopic particles released by said animals can still provide the DNA needed to identify them. Yes, its a tuna byproduct. But its so highly processed that you shouldn't put it anywhere near your body.
