Overview
Simple pattern suitable for beginners. Using the Sentro 48 stitch knitting machine in the panel setting.
Goals
How to use a knitting machine- in the panel setting.
You Will need:
500g DK wool
Some waste yarn
Sewing scissors
Darning needle
Crochet hook
Short & long cord circular thin needles- for the finishes
Elasticated thread
6 pegs
The Pattern
Size: Made to fit.
Put your machine in the P (panel) setting.
Crank anti clockwise until you arrive at the white tooth- cast on with some waste yarn- begin by hooking the wool under the white tooth, then place the wool behind the next tooth, under the next one, behind the following one, continue like this all the way around until you are unable to continue cranking.
Feed the wool through the slit and into the tension gauge, the middle one will be fine.
Reverse and crank clockwise.
Crank out 15 rows of waste yarn.
Add your working yarn and crank for 95 rows for a small, 105 for a medium and 115 for a large.
Re-add your waste yarn and crank for about 5 to 10 rows.
Cast off by taking the wool out of the tension gauge and out of the slit and pop the ball in the center and crank around twice.
Make 4 of these pieces- 2 will be the front of the torso and 2 will be the back of the torso.
To make the arm in a small, grab a bit of nail polish and work out where your 30th tooth is and paint a little bit of nail polish on it. For a medium and large paint you 35th tooth.
Cast on with your waste yarn up to the painted tooth but not under the painted tooth.
Feed the wool through the slit and into the tension gauge, the middle one will be fine.
2 or 3 stitches wont catch- this is normal.
Crank out 15 rows of waste yarn.
Add working yarn.
Crank for 90 rows.
Make 4 of these. 2 pieces will be 1 the arm.
Darn 2 pieces together to make one tube- which is arm one. Repeat.
Go back to your torso and darn 2 together. Then the other 2.
Put your 2 torso pieces together with the right sides facing each other and work out where you want your neck hole to be. Add some pegs to mark this point. (approx 17 stitches from the shoulder point to the beginning of the neck hole)
Carefully remove your waste yarn with our dropping any of the working yarn stitches.
Darn or crochet your shoulders together.
Pick up the neck stitches with your short cord circular needles and knit the 1 x 1 rib knit (k1, p1) for about 3 or 4 cm.
Cast off with elasticated thread.
Grab the arms and remove waste yarn and add working yarn onto your short cord circular needles. Knit 6 stitches and the 7th stitch knit 2 together until you have 48 stitches on your needles.
Introduce the 1 x 1 rib knit and knit for about 5 to 6 cm. Cast off with elasticated thread.
Line the seam of the arm up with the seam of the shoulder and sew down from the shoulder to the armpit.
Go back to the top of the shoulder and sew down the other side. Sew closed. Sew down from the armpit to the waste. Repeat on the other side.
Pick up the waist stitches and finish them off in a 1 x 1 and cast off with elasticated thread.
Tidy up loose ends.

Hi, thank you very much for your tutorial! I have one question about the sleeve. On 41:55 you explain how to make a decrease but probably there is a little mistake in there, you say "k 1-6, 7 k2t" until you have 48 stitches left. But we started with 48 stitches. So for how many rows we need to k2t? How many stitches should be left before starting on ribbing? Thank you :)

I’ve begun treating the knitted or crochet fabric as that, a fabric. Just making regular tubes, cut and lay flat to steam. Then I use commercial patterns to make my garments. I get a flat 17” wide fabric. Using stay tape especially for the shoulder seams bc the sweater hangs straight from that point. I will never be happy with that seam going down the back, or front though. I use my little knitting machine for cuffs. The 40needle machine for front panels on cardigans. Everyone is learning and I love your method also.

I agree on the seem, but check out my latest tutorial "how to make a sweater vest" ,if you go into the description and look for the time stamp "how to do the mattress stitch" I show you how to join panels seamlessly!! It's been an absolute game changer for me 🥳🥳🥳

get a flatbed knitting machine for larger sized sweaters or making blankets. flatbed machines can have 100,150, or 200 needles. i use a bond knitting machine and bolting two machines together gives me 200 needles, enough for a blanket.

Hi, I absolutely love this tutorial and am currently trying to make a jumper using this method. What circular knitting needles do you use for the ribbing? Also, would you recommend using knitting needles that result in a smaller tension than the knitting machine panels like in some ways of making ribbing?

Hi sweetie! Thank you for this wonderful feedback ❤️ the needle size I used for the borders (neck, waist and cuffs) was a US size 2. Long cord for the waist and a short cord for the cuffs and neck, and then I casted all of them off using an elasticated thread for extra elasticity. So to answer your question, a much smaller needle size to tighten the tension and stitch size 💕 at a guess I'd say the sentro produces a stich size that a US 5-6 needle would produce 😉

your tension guide is upside down, if you flip it around its less likely to break

😂😂😂 i can't remember if I put in on like that or it came that way but I've just been using it like this the whole time. Anyway, the point I'm making is to make sure the knots don't get stuck in it. Because I'm sure upside-down or not, that will break it ❤️

I apologize upfront for this question. But what’s considered 1 row? Going forward one row, or going forward then backwards considered 1 row? 😅 I’m so new with this and I’m very unsure and I’m also not sure if you mentioned it in the video and I missed when you did mention it.? Pls help. Thanks in advance ! ❤ love all of your work. Very beautiful and easy to understand

Hi sweetie! Please don’t apologise!!! There are lots of working part to learn and if you don’t ask you don’t know 🥰 so the white tooth is the beginning of the row and as you come back to it- you start a new row- does that make sense? ❤️🧶

I’m sorry to hear that… it does take time and practice… if you go into my videos and go all the way to the first one I show you how to knit and then if you go to the one called “how to knit a beanie” that one will help you practice a similar process to how we pick up and knit the neck ♥️

Hello! Did you mean rows? I would say 10 to 15, and then I cast off with an elasticated thread. If you meand stitches, I just picked up all the stitches around the neck - I think that was a total of 70 stitches or maybe 65, around there 😀

I don’t think your yarn tensioner is fitted properly; it’s not supposed to be facing downwards but straight out. It might be why you have damaged it. But on a positive : I love the jumper, nice style and colour. Thank you for the tutorial 🌹❣️

is this video still available 0n You tube? If so; what is the title? I tried the title "How to make a sweater on a Sentro knitting machine", and it did not come up. I am not sure how I found this again. I had seen it a couple of months ago and taken notes but had to search for ever to find it today ,and because I tried so many different ways to find it had no idea how I found it. And Did Jojo Juju actually post it to her site?

The jersey I made in this tutorial is a large or XL and you can make it smaller by casting on less stitches or if you want it to be bigger you can add a centre panel (so 3 panels instead of 2) ❤️🧶

Why do you need waste yarn
@Arly_knits
@Arly_knits Жыл бұрын
Because the first few rows aren't very tidy, they are usually a little loose.. so you use waste yarn for those rows ❤️
