My Momma was the most amazing quilter. She has dementia now and hasn't sat down at a sewing machine in about 4 years. I never learned how to quilt. I wish I could turn back time and have her show me such a treasured skill at the machine ❤

This is strange. I had an MRI done 2 weeks ago. It was of my left hand, I knew a previous injury would result in Surgery and I wasn’t happy about that. If you have had an MRI you know how the noise is even with headphones on. I use diversionary thoughts to be able to tolerate it. I was - in my mind- designing a quilt with Purple and green fabrics. I am not a green person, but the lighter brighter green looks great with any purple. Had my surgery yesterday, and I saw the you-tube from Shabby Fabrics, with the purple and green, isn’t that something!

This is a gorgeous collection. Love purple and green together. Plus, I have to say, Robert Kaufman was a favorite vender of mine when I was selling custom bedding and window coverings many moons ago (decades) at a design center in Orange County, CA. I'm so glad I watched this video. It's was the colors that drew my attention and I'm not even a quilter. I'm a beader and a gardener. But, I've saved my late husband's Harley Davidson and other novelty T-shirts for a quilt top. (Lost him Sept. 26, 2023) Obviously, the pattern won't be anything like the Camille collection squares, using jersey knit with large graphics, but I learned some important sewing techniques for quilting from watching. I was quite the seamstress in my teens and early adult years. Haven't sewn since my 30's other than minor mending and alterations. I'm really looking forward to sewing again now that I'm closer to 70 than 60. I may have to invest in a couple tools you featured. BTW, I think it would be impossible for me to put the Camille patterns together randomly. Ha ha! Thanks for the tutorial.

I love this quilt and those fabrics. How much fabric of each color would I need if I don't use precuts? You make this look so easy
@ShabbyFabrics9 ай бұрын
We're glad this quilt inspires you! The pattern (www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/689) doesn't give the yardage for the quilt top, so you can just use 42 ten inch squares, or since 1 layer cake is approximately 2.8 yards of fabric, you can do your fabric estimations on that number. This layer cake in the Camille collection contained 18 fabrics, and each layercake has 42 squares. Divided evenly, that's approximately 2.3 ten-inch squares per fabric. Hope this helps! -Michelle

Tammy, Thank you for the video. Why do you pin from the bottom? again thank you

If I wanted to make this into a king size quilt how many squares of fabric would i need?

I don’t have this fabric, but I have some green and purple fabrics in my stash. Sooo, you only used 10 of the 10x10 squares to do this whole quilt? Other than backing and binding?
@ShabbyFabrics9 ай бұрын
Hi Grace - I believe Tammy only used 10 squares for demonstration purposes for this tutorial. This quilt top does require the use of all (or most of) the 42 squares that you'll find in a Layer Cake. Hope this makes sense! -Michelle

On seams, why not just press all of them open? That way you know each color behind it will have the same color as in front of it. Does that make sense or does it matter to fold them one way or the other

Hi Michelle - You can certainly press open if you prefer. Tammy was demonstrating how to nest your seams. This older blog post by The Crafty Quilter does offer some detailed insight on the difference between pressing open & pressing to the side: thecraftyquilter.com/2014/01/lets-talk-pressing-seams-open-vs-to-the-side/ You can certainly choose to press as your preferred method for your projects!
