Thanks! My Cub Cadet XT-1 throttle cable broke. This helped me make a replacement very easily. These videos save weekend tinkers like me a ton of money and unnecessary downtime.

Good One Donny.....Sometimes the simplest things can be the most trouble...I use 1/8 inch Steel & Brass Rods to make my Whirligigs Mechanism and the bends are very simular so I made up some simple JIgs with Nails on my workbench , spaced just right to slip the wire in and bend it with the fixed nails, works perfect every time.

Thanks, Don. Just what I wanted to see. I have been cutting mine off with a Dremel and a cut-off wheel. I was installing the throttle assembly on the handle, measuring the length, marking it, & then cutting the sheath with Dremel while it was still attached.

Oldie but a goodie. I've got a cable just like this that seems to be stretched. There's slack in the cable. I've taken the whole mechanism apart and it's moving as much as it can. I think I'll give this a shot and see about shortening it up a bit.
@obfuscated30908 жыл бұрын
After cutting the sheath, inspect the cut end for burrs which may drag on your throttle wire. I dress the ends with a file or grinder.

@ringbolt9 noo because the shear bolts are in place holding the augers to the shaft. the only way to spin them is by removing the shear bolts

Old school Donyboy!! Where does one find bulk wire like this? I need to run fresh cables on three machines so I was hoping to find a bulk roll of it. I must be Googling the wrong thing because I can’t find anything.

I developed a kit that lets you use any motorcycle throttle or even a break lever cable as an accelerator on these engines. I'ts for use on custom made mini bikes and go karts that use these z-bend carb configurations. Installs in under a minute.

@bodeine4547 жыл бұрын
donyboy73 I have recently discovered silicone grease, you can get it in plumbing supplies among other places, and it's an excellent lubricant for many things except for high pressure applications like wheel bearings etc and it doesn't get washed out from water and moisture. It doesn't affect most plastics and rubbers so it's really good to use in places where it may contact these materials. It also makes a really good O ring lube and it's good for vehicle rubber and weatherstripping as it lubricates and preserves and also helps to keep weatherstripping from hardening and sticking in cold weather....A little expensive but so many uses.

The throttle cable on my snowblower broke just below the z-bend attached to the lever mechanism. Now, to open the throttle, I need to force the end of the (now shortened) wire completely into the sheath. I was just going to cut the sheath to provide enough wire to make a new z-bend and re-attach it to the lever mechanism, however the sheath appears to be attached to the lever mechanism. Is this normal? It looks like a small collar that the sheath is sitting in.

excellent video. this is sorta related question. i'm in need of the cable for this part in your video. i don't need a sheath or throttle control, so i don't want to pay 30-40 bucks for entire replacement part. can i buy an alternative cable wire anywhere, online? just need the wire. i just don't know the specific wire specs for this throttle cable. thanx a bunch
