In the US. Florists have become so untraditional and non customer service oriented. I was trained to always create a sheaf when loose flowers were sold and especially boxed flowers were sent. Its a lost art. I love this. THANK YOU!

I’m with most of the other commenters. I really love your videos on these classic designs. I’m learning floristry at the moment in Australia. We learn all of these designs and my teacher is amazing. But I find it so helpful to watch your videos in between my practical lessons and assessment days. Your explanations and demonstrations really help me to get my head around how to construct easy design.

Hi John! This sheath is beautiful! I have to agree with Diana (below) in that these are rarely seen these days. However, we have a music conservatory here in Baltimore (Peabody) and in Spring we made dozens of these to be presented at Senior Recitals. Yours is exceptionally beautiful and makes a statement. Thanks!

This! This is exactly what I'm trying to get for my daughter's senior night! I can't seem to find a florist that sells this 😕 . Hopefully I can find the flowers to make it myself.
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 this style was the original bouquet that is presented on stage to a presenter! It should be balanced in the arm and is complete in itself - just recut the stems and put into water later!

@@FlowerJoos yes! Our daughter is a Cheer Senior and at senior night, she'll be announced and I want to present her with a beautiful sheaf (I only just learned the technical name from this video!) when they call her name so she can hold it in one arm while we walk her across the field and get our picture taken! What are some good fall types of greenery and flowers for something like this? Thank you for your help and your video!

@@tiffyb7309 you are very welcome. I would see what is available near you - so sunflowers, grasses, solidago, gerbera, zinnia, and a few roses are nice as well! I think she will love it 😊

I absolutely love this! Is it correct, that a sheaf like that would not have any source of water? If yes, how long would something like that keep? Is there a trick to make it last longer?
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 yes, it’s not with a water source - so ideal for a presentation on stage or for a funeral item. If used as a bouquet it would need recut and placed in a vase to last, and if outside at a graveside it would just sit here, or a member of the family might take it home. I suppose the best description it is a style for a purpose - and after that purpose it is either left out or put in water. 🙂🌼
@kathryngalajda35533 жыл бұрын
We still do these regularly. A local church likes them to put in their urns each week for services.
@FlowerJoos3 жыл бұрын
That’s good - and will be ideal in an urn as a display, but can then be given away as well 😊🙋🏼♂️
@ajl86154 ай бұрын
I can see that the extra gladioli shouldn't be required. The reason because the very top of a sheaf is sharp like the top of a triangle. In fact, funeral sheaf is a front face bouquet, only for front viewing. The whole shape is a slim triangle and increases height of the blooms starting from half of the triangle below down. That means the most largest blooms are placed in the bottom base as focal point. The top should have only single contents.

Thank you. In Australia I am going to make the large casket spray you made a video for the first time that big and I am seeking for your kind advise what is the best flower to replace cymbidium orchids ( not available in male colour). Thank you very much.
@FlowerJoos3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙂 I think you can use any flower really but ideally something big that looks good from a distance - do large headed roses, gerbera, blooms - it also depends on your colour choice. I think a mono colour or two colour combination is nice for a design for a man. If you are wanting something long lasting, more tropical - then the anthuriums are perfect as the main flower maybe - there is a good range of head sizes and colours there. Hope that helps - 🙂🙋🏼♂️🌼
@isabelmyosotis15883 жыл бұрын
Beautiful as always! A question though- did you put the flowers in at the top on one side and underneath on the other? I struggle with sheafs…
@FlowerJoos3 жыл бұрын
That is a good question - and yes! So you create a spiral, just like in a handtied bouquet with the stems here as well. This makes a good tying point and if the spiral is nice and consistent then it’s also very secure when tied 🌼🙋🏼♂️
@phoebehope654910 ай бұрын
If this were used as the main funeral item would it slide around on the coffin at all? (I assume sprays have some grips or rubber on the base of the trays?)
@FlowerJoos10 ай бұрын
That is really the job of the undertakers - I think they have matts and non slip bases they use that they keep in the hearses. But potentially it could slip around . They are the people who will transport and handle the item in front of the customers.

Are you using argawool. I understand the oasis form is dangerous.
@FlowerJoos3 жыл бұрын
In this the mechanic is just the stems - but yes we have been using Agra wool for other designs. Hopefully foam use in general will decline as new options enter the market. 😀🌼🙋🏼♂️
@mary-janegibson86912 жыл бұрын
Why is that spiral?
@FlowerJoos2 жыл бұрын
The stems where they meet go round in one direction, all on an angle. This method gives a very consistent mechanic and flowers can be easily adjusted, as well as tied off without loosening. 😀 So it’s at the neck it is spiralled not into the actual design visually. Hope that makes sense 🤪😀
