Any chance of a discussion of why the wires go where they do? Or maybe a list of what each one does in the process? Would love to build one. And with these instructions I can. But I would like to know why it works.

Could you connect that tone to a transmitter, and use a locator/receiver to find the tone? Like putting the Tone Generator underground and using the receiver above ground to find it?

Hi I'm new to circuits so if anyone can explain a few questions that would be great! One is how do I connect the mosfet to pin 5 if I'm using a breadboard? Why are the numbers for the pins switched(sorry i'm new to circuits). And do I really need an amplifier to connect to the speakers, or can i just hook up the solar panel to the speaker and that should be fine?

+ECHOP no problem, I made a video on a simple plasma/arc speaker, but it is nice to have to potentiometer so that you can tune it to the best frequency that will resonate easily , but I suppose you could likely do it without them if you want to calculate the correct frequency then use some math to calculate what resistance needs to go there to give you that frequency

Stone Cold7 It's connected between pin 5 of the timer chip and ground. Pin 5 is the "Control Voltage" pin. This is the reference voltage for the comparator on the threshold pin. The small capacitance from pin 5 to ground helps to stabilize this reference voltage for more stable operation.
