Making a candy launcher has been on my list for quite some time. Originally i wanted to make a whopper cannon but in the spirit of Halloween, i could not "Launch" unwrapped candies for the kiddies. so the idea of a tootsie roll candy launcher/cannon was the most logical next step (or is it).
Build Starts at 1:25
Testing starts at 5:08
Field firing starts at 6:53
The build was straight forward, and since i have been gathering parts since last Halloween, everything was already in my shop, although strictly for the purpose of making this air powered launcher.
tests were conducted at 20 psi, 30 psi, 50 psi, and 90 psi! (all in the video)
It was astonishing the amount of power this launcher actually has, i was VERY SURPRISED! the tootsie rolls were consistently launched to roughly 150-200 feet! not bad really for such a little wrapped candy! there was little difference of range between 50 and 90 psi. above 50 the air would open the wrapper and reduce the effectiveness of the launcher. launching at 30psi would yeild more shots per tank charge with only a slight reduction in range.
the actuators are industrial solenoid valves and powered by a 12v battery. i bought them on ebay but you can also find them on amazon.
This project is dangerous and you should NOT BUILD THIS!!
