Time/headache saving tip: I had a heckuva time using the epoxy. It was curing too quickly and my rivets were coming out stringy and not at all like I'd hoped. I used Ranger's glossy accents, which dries clear and has a needle tip bottle for dispensing. It worked amazingly well, and very quick. It's a fantastic adhesive for dimensional elements as well. You can purchase it at any scrapbook store or at Michaels and it goes a long way.
@LostWax7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check that out. Some people really like the epoxy, but others hate it, so it's good to have options.

Here's a response to Lou M, Unfortunately I can't respond directly to your question, in order to allow me to respond, go to Google plus settings, open Google account settings, Where it says "who can click on your public posts" change it to "anyone" That would be awesome! As far as sizes, the pattern comes with 9 sizes from 41cm to 63 cm head diameters. I haven't had anyone yet tell me that there wasn't a size that fit them, so you should be alright.

The curry was excellent! I wouldn't use hot glue, I think you will end up having a hard time getting even dots, not to mention all the stringy bits you get with using a hot glue gun.... but you can always try on some scrap and see how it goes.

Looks better up close where you can see the rivets; from a distance it looks a little messy. This is probably because the hat looks the same on all sides. Perhaps one might pick up a few plastic cogs or other steampunk-style objects, paint them in bronze/gold paint, and affix them to the hat? It would break up the monotony of the hat's appearance, and add some extra flair.
@jenniferokeeffe5028 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your tutorial. Using foam had not crossed my mind as I thought of ideas how to make a hat. The contact cement was great too for quick grab application and minimal sticky fingers. However, I wanted to add an additional warning with the contact cement & foam. It might be a good idea to use a respirator. Even outside, I almost injured myself. There must have been a chemical reaction between the foam & contact cement. Noxious fumes started eminating from the hat that could be smelled 4 ft away. Aired it outside for 3 days in the rain. The fumes finally ceased and I was able to continue the process. The hat turned out great!!
@LostWax Жыл бұрын
Yes!! Definitely wear a respirator. This was one of my first videos and not long after that I switched to using hot glue for that very reason. Good reminder to update the description with a warning, thanks!!

Oh wow, once rub-n-buff went on that thing the rivets made so much sense. Beautiful. Make moar things. **off to buy a yoga mat**
@LostWax11 жыл бұрын
Rub N Buff is a metallic wax paste, made by AMACO,the consistency is kind of like thick acrylic paints or something like that. You can do a dry brush technique with it, I tend to prefer using my fingers with just a very tiny amount on it for most things if I want to just colour the highlights.
