✅ I Made a TRAM GAUGE AND A PULLING BRIDGE DIY For DIRT CHEAP Autobody Measurement Equipment

In thins video I will show you how you can make you own Tram Gauge which is a part of the Auto body meaning equipment and also a Pulling Bridge for CHEAP. Cheapest Tram gauge that I've seen was around $200 but you can build your own for under $20 in materials. And I'm not even sure if you can buy the pulling bridge, so if you want one, building it would be your only option. These are some the must have tools if you're doing bodywork that should be in every bodyman's arsenal.

A REALLY cheap power source for "Pulling" glue tabs etc is a scissors jack - they (as opposed to other jacks) work at any angle & pull/push with the same force in either direction. I use one to pull on glue-tabs using a chain as the "link". I made a simple bracket that attaches the scissors jack to an RSJ - in my case, a pillar in the workshop. By rolling the vehicle forwards/backwards, moving the jack up/down the RSJ, I can pull at any angle on any dent from a single fixed upright. By pulling off the workshops roof rsj, I can pull on vehicle roof dents.. With that simple device, I can make any pull you'd care to make on any vehicle - even crunched quarters with no backside access become a doddle to pull. Same goes for sills. Awesome video. I've got a suggestion for your next project. I think you should build yourself a rolling work bench. You could cut, weld, fab and lay out your tools on it. Add a shelf or two under it along with power outlets. That way you can just roll it into the garage at night with all your stuff on it and back out in the morning. And best of all... you can quit cutting and welding on the lawn and blacktop. Trust me, your knees and back will thank you when you're a few years older.

In my opinion in order to sell it the end result would have to be quite a bit nicer. The way I put it together was somewhat crude, but it was fast and it serves the purpose 👍

Very informative video. Unfortunate about the hornet attack at the start. We have paper wasps here in Australia that are even more vicious. If you happen to bump their nest, you can be attacked by several at once and if you try to swat them, it makes them attack even more.So the only option is to run like crazy to get out of their range. I'll be making the tram gauge later, so the information you provided is most useful. I previously looked them up online and the cost was similar to what you mentioned, so making one is the best option. Sure, it won't have the fancy calibration that an expensive one has, but then again, is all that flair really necessary for basic measurements like you demonstrated? Your tram gauge is a really good solution at a very cheap price with a bit of work that saves many hundred dollars. Very much appreciate you going to the trouble of showing us how to make one. I don't think I have a use for the pulling bridge, but it was interesting to see how you made it and many others will want to construct one for themselves. You also hit the audio on the head. It was well balanced and a good volume. Great work.

Thank you Bruce, thinking about it after the fact I realize that that hornet wasn't out to sting me, I probably had something on my hand that atrackted it and it just landed to explore, but the damn thing did pinch me with it's mandibles and that's what really freaked me out... I'm glad you've liked the video, hope the explanation was clear enough and that I've left nothing out. I've had other folks ask me to do a vid about the bridge so I thought I'd kill 2 birds with one stone and tackle both projects in one shot. I think I've figured what I've done wrong with my sound in the past, and I'm happy that the audio tables are where they're suppose to be. And I thank you for pointing it out, otherwise I probably would have kept making the same mistakes for a while longer. Cheers my friend, I'll have more vids out soon :)

@@fix206 Yes, you covered things nicely with the video. While I probably could have worked out how to make the tram gauge myself, it's going to be a whole lot easier to make it after seeing your video and following your design. I probably won't have a need for the pulling bridge, but if I ever do need one, I know where to look to get guidance on building it. Glad my feedback on the audio was useful. I always try to help where I can. Worst thing that happened to me with a wasp was when one stung me just below my left eye. That really hurt and it took a while for me to recover, but it could have been a lot worse if it'd hit my eye.

​@@fix206 You probably like wasps more than I do.🤣 If you have any haunting your property (especially since you have kids) you could try a few things to eradicate them. (The youtube video explaining the proportion is titled below) explaining how much boric acid to dissolve in small doses into apple juice. Apple juice isn't sweet enough to appeal to honey bees but it should be appealing enough for some species of wasps or hornets (more of a flying ant). The idea isn't to kill them at the "fountain," but to have them bring a small dose of poison back to their nest to kill the queen and larva ... which, once you have a concoction they're attracted to would take about 2 weeks to eradicate the population up to a half mile or more. It's just a matter of figuring out what the species in your area is most attracted to. Video Title: _Safely kill ALL Hornets, Yellow Jackets and Wasps for 1/2 mile. Safe for honeybees._ BTW ... what's your name..?

Great job on the gauge set. A recommendation though is you should have left more of the pointed rod stick out of the tube, so you can do under the car to frame measurements. You will need a longer length to clear certain obstacles. Maybe make another set of longer rods. 👍

Good call on that !! I actually do have a couple of extra pointed rods that are quite a bit longer, I made them after this video was posted. Used them just couple of days ago on a new project to see if the frame rails had moved or not. Couldn't have taken that measurement with the shorter rods 👍

Your welding appears to be adequate, but your safety procedures are non existent. If your going to make DIY videos do those that will watch them, do then a favor. Stress how important it is to use proper safety procedures. Like using grinder shields, face shields, safety glasses, welding gloves, appropriate clothing, plus all of the other safety procedures that will keep your and your audience safe. Ok, how do I know? Well how about over 60 years in auto body repair, collision repair equipment sales and training, Manufacturing of autobody equipment, construction equipment, farm equipment. We are still in business. I offered up these observations not to admonish you, but to encourage you to offer safety first in what you do.

Hi Bruce, I do appreciate the safety concern. I do see exactly what you're talking about and I assume that most people understand how safety procedures work. The main point of this video was to show how to build couple of useful tools for cheap and that's about it. People's attention span is real short as it is and If I've spent a minute of two taking about safety, then folks would start clicking out of the video. So I mainly try to show the main points quickly before people would get bored

All of the metal I picked up at my local metal supply yard... And self adhering tape I got over at Home Depot, but most hardware stores should carry something similar to what I used. Спасибо вам !

Home Depot and Lowe's will have a pretty limited selection when it comes to this sort of materials. Try googling metal suppliers in your area. There's usually a yard or a warehouse you would go to where they'll have a big selection of all kinds of metals of different shapes and thicknesses. Try that

I think you are referring to a pulling claw. I was shooting a video in my shop building a few weeks ago and felt something land on my head. Since I sometimes get hornets in the building, I quickly dropped what I was holding and jump back while trying to brush out what ever it was. Turned out it was a lady bug that time.

I usually don't use the measurements unless the damage is real bad, I normally just make sure that everything is symmetrical. There is a website where you can download the measurements from, but you have to pay them $30 per vehicle and the website is in Russian, so I'm not sure how much help that would be to you :(

I see what you're saying, but this was just quick and dirty how to video, nothing special. I mean If I wanted to show off my welding skills I probably would have used a TIG welder and put down some really pretty bead, but that was not my intent. I just wanted to show how to make couple of simple tools with just some simple tools that most people would have sitting around in their garage. And most people don't have a TIG welder or even a nice MIG welder, but a cheap FLUX Core buzz box.

@@istvanbereczkygyor not every weld requires aerospace quality. its a a simple tool. the welds are plenty strong. if you are judging a weld by its looks, you have failed. i have in my line of work seen beautiful appearing welds that wouldnt pass inspection.
