How to make a Trane Wireless Sensor the Primary Thermostat

The fireplace in the living room is not allowing the thermostat to get accurate readings. In this video I will show you how to make a Trane ZSENS930AW wireless remote indoor sensor the primary thermostat. The wall thermostat that you see is the Trane TCONT850AC52UB.

Is it possible to adjust the weight for each sensor? For example one set to 75% weight and the other set to 25% weight?

Hi Joe, I have a Trane Zsens930AW00MA sensor to go with my Trane 824 thermostat. I know I can offset my thermostat temperature, but can you offset the sensor's temperature setting. My sensor is reading 77 degree in my kids bedroom, when in reality it is 73 degrees. I would like to prevent their room from getting that cold unnecessarily. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Eric, Thanks for watching my video. If you are using the sensor as the primary stat, how you set up the 824 should be how the HVAC equipment reacts. There is a lot of investigating that needs to be performed to answer your question properly. Contact a local HVAC contractor. They should be able to help you out fairly easily over the phone.

Question Joe -- I just got a Trane 1050 with a couple of wireless sensors. But for some reason they won't stay online. I set them up and all is good, and shortly after I'll get either the sop.004.00 error or tso.001.00 on both new sensors and they say offline. This is with the sensors right next to the thermostat. Defective? Other ideas?

This sensor is temperature only.

Yes, in the app it shows what the thermostat shows and then what the sensor shows

No, It's either the 850 only, sensor only, or an average between the two.

@@MetroHCI Thanks, when I got my old Trane replaced which had been running for 19 years I was using an Ecobee controler that I could program to switch between sensors. Now I can't do that. Perhaps Trane could add that feature in the future.

@@MetroHCI thanks for the reply, I have the xl824 and 930 sensor that I'm trying to pair, everytime it says it's unable to pair device but then the thermostat has increasing number of nodes. I've been unable to set is as a wireless sensor as a result. Any tips for this issue?

The technician wants $685 to install this thermostat & I can buy it at $350. I am thinking about installing it myself. Is it difficult to install this thermostat? Please advise. Thanks.

Honestly, $685 doesn't sound like that bad of a price. If you are a handy guy you could try it, but I always recommend hiring a professional.

The reason to buy these expensive thermostats is to run a complex Trane/AS air handler and variable speed AC/heat pump. For that equipment these stats should be installed by an HVAC tech. For less complex equipment ecobee/nest is a better value and more DIY friendly. I have an XL1050 and two ecobee.
