Watched this video right before we went on a six month trip and we used a ton of the this advice to edit our vlogs. Thanks Karl for making this series, it’s incredibly helpful to other people trying to make better travel vlogs.

Indeed it’s your editing that makes you videos easy to watch even if they’re an hour long. Your have regular travel clips, like what most travelers take。。。makes it relatable to viewers. And story telling skill is commendable as you tie everything together and there we are, in the trip with you. Amazing. I want to make vids like yours!

whoa, I knew that if the "kubrick of youtube travel videos" is making a video about how to edit it's gonna be good. This is one of the most useful videos that I've seen in a long time. I gonna rewatch it until I can put all your tips and tricks into practice. Thanks!!!

Again, I've learnt a tonne of valuable stuff here, thanks Karl! Think I've realised why it takes me such a painfully long time to edit my stuff...I'm not organising anywhere near as much as you are. I also just re-edited and re-uploaded a Vietnam travel series solely because I felt the original edit wasn't KZbin friendly...I'd edited the original just for mates and family to watch, so there were a lot of in jokes and things that I didn't think would work here. Glad I made the changes. Happy new year, really look forward to seeing what's in store for you in 2018

I love using the trick of putting b-roll over a jump cut, makes the whole video look much smoother and everyone loves a bit of b-roll... also really cool to see how you edit the route on a map, its a tip I'm going to take inspiration from for sure 👍🏼

So much useful info! Thanks man! I just started with color grading and it is helping for sure. Very true about showing the film to someone and the problems immediately coming out. But sometimes I overthink it and am too hard on myself then watch it later and am fine with it. I can sometimes look at the smallest thing that only an editor would see and just think the whole film is ruined.

Great tips Karl - thanks for sharing! I'll have to try out that FCPX keyword technique in my next travel video as it seems like it would save a load of time! Keep up the good work!

Good stuff, info packed. Man, we have toooooootally different strategies towards editing. I keep it much simpler, but that's necessary for daily vlogging, you just can't spend as much time if you're going to have any time left beyond editing and filming every day. I'd really love to give Final Cut a try at some point, problem being it's Mac exclusive, too bad. I'd really love to create some more professional videos/movies at some point when I'm not so busy, but I can barely keep up as it is. One thing I love about this job though: there's unlimited potential. You can take it in any number of directions, you can always try something different with your next video and you can always make it better. I don't think it will ever get old, even though I get burnt out sometimes. But you just take a break and then you're thinking about what you want to film next and how you want to create something a little different with the next video. Peace out, safe travels and Happy 2018!

So much great insight packed into a short video. Nice one! Love your style with these Q&As, no bullshit, not overcomplicated, just straight to the useful info. A lot better than many similar videos I've watched. Learning how to use Final Cut atm and these tips will really help. And thanks for sharing info on how you make those maps, they really help make your films engaging and inspiring. A question I have, which is less about editing I guess, is how you back up your footage on the road? Do you start organising the footage on your hard drive as you go to help with the editing process? How many copies do you make?

Nice, I did think it was somewhere in the north from your accent. I moved to Rio and lived there for 6 years and have now been in Houston for almost 3 years. Do you ever fancy living somewhere else one day?

I use FCPX over Premiere, In my opinion, FCPX has Premiere beat in pretty much every aspect easier UI and quicker etc. You say at 1:45 you have to use Premiere Pro for certain clients is there a particular reason for that? Does the client ask you to use it/requires you to use it or is there another reason?

Ive edited countless docs and news features for the national tv station in my country but i want to try my hand at producing a travel show now. Im planning to film my 4 month road trip this summer which id like to turn into a travel show so this video was of great help :)
