In this video I show you how to make a DIY Camera Dolly, which is basically a tripod on wheels.
Tripod Dollies are a bit of a specialized item not everyone can use but what many woodworkers can use are ideas and techniques used in design and building this tripod dolly that could be applied to other kinds of projects.

That is fantastic. Perhaps a small improvement would be to use rubber wheels so there is no noise when you roll around. Be helpful when you are recording. Also locking wheels would be good too. But that is really useful.

+Dan Tauro Yup ... others commented the same thing, going to try these out, but I think the rubber wheels with locks will be next on my mod. list

1st. class that should work in your shop when you need to move the camera. Nothing better than having your equipment on wheels. Thanks for sharing it Colin.

That was amazing! I truly wish I had that skill. I can splice genes, alter genetic codes and a molecular biologist, and yet, when I see those tools and your skill, I feel so clueless. That was a great dolly. I think I will just purchase one...you should make a few and sell them. I like yours better than the standard store bought because I bet with some nice staining that would look fantastic. Very ingenious.

Absolutely brill an idea !! I have also made this from watching yr video!, which I must admit the rubber lock wheels I have found to be a quieter and easy way to filming using the lathes as the vibration would make the tripod roll whilst filming really good idea ! Thank you so much!! Also the layout of yr workshop has helped me to set up my workshop!

+Corrina O'Rourke Hi Corrina, I may need to switch to the same wheels you are using, I like the idea of lockable rubber wheels ... thanks for the info :)

I should mention that they can tend to leave black marks on flooring but easily rubbed off!! I've also found to stop any shaking when using lathes and others high vibration tools that a sliding bracket along the wall and ceiling beats the problem of shaking whilst filming. Im new to this so any advice of how to set up my workshop to get the most out of the space Id really appreciate!!! Also the videos u make are amazing to watch and learn from as you make it easy to follow and understand thank you!!

I have an idea to improve your idea. You should buy some springs and stick it on your dolly so it acts like a choke to further stabilize it in case you need to use your dolly tripod on rough surfaces.

Can you raise/lower the tripods legs with them in that fixed position? Also, where did you get that face mask? Do you glasses fog up? It looks hot. Is it?

+Eli Ben David That is a good question, I guess it is because some small wheel carts are called dollies and since this one wheels around a tripod, that is how it got it name ... just guessing
