Thank you for explaining the proportional aspect of the view-finder. I was trying to make one using the instructions in Dr. Betty Edwards' book, which said to use the diagonal lines, but it also said to draw lines a certain distance from the edge, lining them up with the diagonal lines. I was not surprised to see they didn't match up, but I didn't know which line to use--the one I drew from the edge, which didn't match up, or a new line drawn to match up with the diagonals. Now I understand that I need to draw the new lines and keep the same shape for the inside rectangle as for the outside rectangle.

Thanks for this video! You explained it in perfect detail for a person like me who knows nothing about artwork.

Ditto the previous comment. Betty Edwards book doesn’t make the diagonals and side measurements clear. Thanks for your time and help!

I'm using mat board. It's typically used in frames but is great for projects like this
