How to make a wall lamp with a shelf

I have a very small living room which means I don't have any room for end tables, so no room for table lamps and no room for floor lamps. So to add more lighting, I came up with this design for wall sconces that incorporate a shelf that can double as small end tables. I made them using standard materials from the hardware store and only a few hand tools like a drill and a hand saw.

Isabel, you got me out of my comfort zone by making me like this so much that I had to try it. I've never worked with light tools or lighting before so the project took me longer than it should have. The project is very forgiving but using lots of trim and personalizing it have results I am happy with. The cost is very affordable so now I can make another at any time. Thank you for posting.

It looks great but you need a jigsaw to make cutting wood easier. You can get them for under $30 . I look forward to more design ideas.
