There are foamboard cutters that can do your joint trick pretty easy, plus cut all sorts of fixed angles (like 45 deg), and they are pretty cheap, usually under $20. SOmetimes called a rabbit cutter, or a v-groove cutter. Of course, you can get your utility blade for under $5, so its just a matter of taste. If you do it alot, it might be worth it.

DAVE! That was awesome! Hey, perhaps a cool tip for those windows; put lassotape paper on the inside wall so that it covers the windows. Add paint, varnish and maybe bend it slightly to get those white lines; show that it's seen battle. Just a little idea of mine =)

@killalot363 Yes you can. If you want to spray, make sure you white glue the foam edges, or you will get a melted foam edge. (some times that looks cool and give a feel of destroyed building) To white glue the edges, mix 2 parts glue - 1 part water, mix and, with an old tank brush or something similar, paint the edges of the foam board on the inside where the foam is. This will seal it in, and won't melt from primer.

at 4.20, you don't need to do the extra cut horizontaly, just place the back of your blade in the cut you allready made, and push the two layers you want to get rid of out. Just scrape it off. This way you don't cut into the last remaining bit of cardboard you want to end up with ;) and if you know the thickness of your foamboard, you can just measure it and draw an exact line with your ruler, instead of placing it on top of it and drawing an outline. just an extra tip for a great tutorial! :)

@modelmanjohn I've picked up some nice foam cutting tools that let me rabbit cut, and it's quite a time saver! Glad I found them, but yes, they cost more than my X-acto blade. :-)

If you take a plastic bottle cut out squares you can use them for windows its easy to make it look like broken or shot up glass to throw alittle red on there for effect!

i used to be into this kinda stuff, even went to gamesday atlanta, but now they closed both shops where i live and i sorta lost taste in it. i would like to get into it but i have no money :( i had some really awesome ideas for terrain. i always thought of adding LEDs to the buildings for a more realistic effect.

Okay, need a little help here. I used foamcore to make some buildings and as soon as I base coated them the card stock separated from the foam. Just peeling away. I brush painted with flat black enamel for the base. Any ideas?

last one is not recomended. if you have ever burnt yourself really badly with a high heat hot glue gun you will know. Also number 3 is also fun with high power soldering irons it adds an extra stake to it.

"Granny Grating" is used for cross-stitching, as Dave said, so anywhere that deals with sewing, knitting and other needlecrafts should sell it. The foamboard I'm less sure about; any decent craft store should have it, but also anywhere you'd get things like model train kits is worth a look.
