This tutorial shows how to create a Windows 10 Bootable USB Flash Drive for Installing Windows 10 Operating system, performing windows 10 update, upgrade, or making clean install for both Windows 10 Pro and Home editions for free. There are two common ways to do this, the first way is to directly use the media creation tool from Microsoft, in which case all you would need is a USB stick, 8 gigs or larger, and an internet connection. The second way is to use a third-party application to create your Windows 10 bootable USB. In that case, you will need a Windows 10 iso file, which you can download for free, a USB stick, and of course the third-party application. There are several third-party applications out there you can choose from. Here I will be using Rufus.

ive tried every other tutorial out there and this one is the only one that works! thank you! i was about to lose my mind until this tutorial came in clutch and for others that get a "The upgrade option isn't available, if you start your computer using Windows installation media" message after installing the USB drive, choose Custom instead. your files will still be saved in C: under a folder named "Windows.old"

Better yet, I did an 8 gig partition on a not OS drive and made it bootable with the windows 10 Image, this way in the event of a restore /reinstall it can be accessed from the boot menu whenever needed without consuming a usb drive.

Thank You Easy Techs! This DOES work! Over the last couple of days I’ve been able to do this using a USB stick and a DVD with the Windows ISO file. For me, running the rufus software was not necessary. One thing that I noticed was that if I used the DVD (with the ISO file extracted to it)… Near the beginning of the install I was seeing a black screen with a flashing white cursur at the top of my screen. After waiting a couple minutes I gave up and shut down my computer. I tried this again and saw the black screen with the flashing white cursor. This time I walked away and came back about 15 minutes later and the install program was on my screen. I should have let it sit there longer. Also be prepared to provide a validation Email address. An Email will be sent to this address with a seven digit number. You will need this seven digit number to continue the install.

Correct, this is just for the installation of the operative system. You'll need a license key for Windows 10 for it to work, or have a previous license activated on your microsoft account which makes it so you wouldn't need to purchase another license if you were to swap your computer in the future.
