You need to buy a product key if installing fresh full version on device for first time and it never had any Windows on it before (example: new computer build). If you are re-installing Windows 10 or upgrading on device that already had Windows 10 on it before then Microsoft license servers will remember your device and you will not need to buy product key.

Thanks NIC your method to create win 10 iso is working quickly maybe one hour Using Rufus for win 11 took about five hours. Don’t know if because of time of day internet speed or 10 versus 11 or Rufus versus Microsoft

Try again, because even with a slow internet / wifi connection it should not take more then 2 hours at most to download to USB flash drive.

You don't need rufus to make Windows 10 bootable USB Flash drive. Just do as shown in video and you will be fine.

When Windows media is created on USB flash drive it will delete everything on the flash drive. So you might want to try to format the USB flash drive first prior to going through the steps shown in my video. This sometimes fixes problems like you just described.

You will not need to find your product key. Microsoft Windows 10 servers automatically will know you have genuine Windows 10, based on device OS history. No matter how many times you install Windows 10 on the same laptop. Remember to install the same Windows 10 version that was previously on laptop.

Sadly, Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 keys are no longer useable to activate Windows 11. So you would need to get a new Windows 11 license key.

I like to format the flash drive first, however, most of the time it's not necessary unless it fails to write to your USB drive. Then you will need to format the flash drive and start over again.
