A video tutorial demonstrating how to make a wire cone to finish off the ends of a kumihimo braid and make a striking bracelet.
Before trying this, you should make sure you are comfortable with using and adding beads to the braid using the round disk. Take a look at my videos below first!

Great tutorial! Although I haven't ever woven this type bracelet (not yet!), I am fascinated by this wire wrapped technique. FMG has the Conetastic tool in-stock along with different sized cones. Thank you for sharing such a lovely design. You teaching style is very positive. I find it easier to learn in a positive environment. Thank you again.

It's a great idea and probably far more cost effective than prefabricated clasps.

Thank you for another clear demo. I like the use of wire rather than glueing a ready made end on, seems so much more secure and you don't need to buy ends in different sizes just make them.

If you can't get the Wags Wicone you can use a Conetastic. There are 3 sizes of Wicone and in this video I use the medium sized one, but all of them are good.

Good tutorial, impressed that you’re using coloured wire without marking it - I have real problems with that to the extent I don’t want to use it! Any tips you can give me please?
@Prumihimo
@Prumihimo 5 жыл бұрын
Judith Longley - Not all coloured wires are equal! It is hard to know which ones are going to flake and scratch easily and which are more robust, even when you get them from the same place. You can use nylon nose pliers and some people wrap tape around their pliers. I just try to be gentle with my regular pliers, using smooth movements. If I find that my wire is getting marked too easily I just use it for practise.

Judith Longley - There is a product called Tool Magic which you dip your pliers into to give them a rubbery coating. I haven’t actually tried it myself, but I have heard good things about it!

Question do you glue the end of the braid before you add the cone? If you don't glue the end, won't the end come apart under the cone?
@Prumihimo
@Prumihimo 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you do need to seal the end of the braid with glue or a binding before attaching the cone.

If you are in the US your best bet is the Conetastic, which is distributed by Beadalon and is widedly available. The Wags Wicone is made by a single man in the UK. It was in stock when I posted the video, but now is out of stock, but he should get some in soon. Alteratively look around your house for some thing cone shaped, such as a large pen top or icing cone and make a small hole right through the top.

They had them in stock earlier in the week at Jewellery Maker, but they are now out of stock. They are hand made by just one man, so you sometimes have to wait. This is the link to the site, so you can keep checking www.wag-tech.co.uk/wagswicone Alternatively look for the conetastic, which is distributed by Beadalon and is widely available.

You can also try making your own. Look for a pen or icing cone in the size you want and make a hole right through the top so that you can secure the wire.
