Yep, despite screwing things up and having to reinstall my site twice before I got halfway- which was my own fault, falling victim to the old adage that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing- this has turned out to be the best tutorial I've encountered. And I've watched quite a few in the past three months. Great pacing and delivery and once I got used to the double-act it worked well, especially with you both taking turns to. play the prompter to get more information out. And, not too bad for an hour-and-a-half tutorial either, it only took me 8 hours. Thanks, guys, appreciate the help and the kickstart, at long last. I've fannnied about with this idea since before I turned 60 last year, so I'm another older guy who's glad to finally be up and running.

Hello Tyler. I feel it's necessary to let you know that after having difficulty with your first video I followed, I followed along with this one much easier. Probably because it's newer. What I was seeing on my computer matched what I was seeing in your tutorial almost perfectly. After following along step by step through this tutorial, I will do as you did at the end, and I will rebuild it again. I feel that with this newer video, I should have much better success. I appreciate all your hard work. Your WordPress tutorials are by far the best on KZbin.

Another great one! Thank you Tyler. I started with your 2023 Elementor video. This looks so much easier! If I follow this and install the blog package, will it delete my pages that I made with Elementor? If I may ask, can you talk about how to make a comment section, which avoids spams as much as possible, and you have a chance to review the comment before approve it? Again, thank you for the clear and well-thought out video!
@TylerMoore13 күн бұрын
Thanks for your kind words! Yes, installing the blog package would replace your current site setup, including your Elementor pages. If you want to keep your existing content, you could: Create a staging site with the new package Transfer your content over Test everything Then replace your live site when ready
@TylerMoore13 күн бұрын
For the comment section, WordPress has built-in moderation. Go to Settings > Discussion, where you can enable comment moderation (to approve before they appear), enable spam filtering, and set rules for automatic moderation. No extra plugins needed, but you can add a plugin for extra spam security if you'd like.

Hello! I watched your previous video from three years ago and set my blog recently . But it was a bit tricky with all of the 2024 updates this year in trying to set up a site from the video that was a few years ago . I’m not a techie but aspiring to be at 61! My question is, would I be able to follow along on this new video with the previous blog set up from your past video? Or do I need to start over? It’s not published yet and has lots of tweaks still needing to be done and why I’ve been sitting on it. Don’t know how to tweak it. I hope that makes sense. Glad to see a new updated video out! You’re an awesome teacher.
@TylerMooreАй бұрын
Hi Lisa! Thank you so much for your kind words-it means a lot! The new video uses the built-in WordPress block editor, while the older one focused on Elementor, so the methods are a bit different. You’d need to pick one approach to follow. If the new video seems easier, you can start fresh using the updated tutorial. To avoid losing your current work, you can try the new method on a separate staging site. Your hosting support team can guide you on setting that up if you’re unsure how to do it. You’ve got this, and I’m here cheering you on! Keep going-your blog is going to be amazing! 🌟

Hey! There are tons of great plugins out there for earning ad revenue. To help you find the right one, here are a few tips: Head to the WordPress.org Plugin Directory and search for "ad revenue" plugins that work with your WordPress version and block themes. Check the reviews and how many active users each plugin has-this can give you a good idea of how reliable it is. Hi! I’m so glad the tutorial is helping you create your blog! For making your blog bilingual, you can search for "multilingual" plugins in the WordPress org Plugin Directory. Just make sure the plugin you choose works with the latest version of WordPress and supports block themes. You can check reviews and active installations to see how reliable it is. Also, KZbin has some great setup tutorials that can help you compare options.

Hey Frederik! I'm so glad the video helped you out! About adding a call to action at the end of a blog post-if you want it to show up on all your posts, here's what you can do: Click "Edit SITE" to open your Post Template. Guys, great job! I've watched it twice & built my blog step by step like you did. I'm have a couple issues. I may delete it all & start over. B4 I do, I can't get multiple blogs on my main blog page. Under Query Loop, under Settings, the bar is missing the 'display settings' button so there is no place where I can show 'Items per page' or offset, to show how many blog post to show on my main page. (Around the 1:08 time mark on video). Also, my contact page, I tried it like you did, but didn't get a reply back.
@TylerMooreАй бұрын
Hi Matt! Thanks for the kind words, and I’m so glad the tutorial helped you! About your blog posts, no need to start over. In the latest WordPress version, the display settings for the Query Loop have moved to the right sidebar. Just select your Query Loop block, and you’ll see the “Display” section there. Click the three dots next to it, and you’ll find all the settings to adjust how many posts appear. For the contact page, it sounds like an email delivery issue. I recommend setting up an SMTP plugin to make sure your site can send emails reliably

@TylerMooreАй бұрын
Hi Kellie! I’m so glad the tutorial has been helpful for you! About adding a sidebar to your blog posts: Before you dive in, make sure to backup your site. That way, if anything doesn’t go as planned, you can easily revert to your original setup. Once you’re set, head into your post template by clicking Edit Site. Add a Columns block (look for button with a plus sign). Move the Page Content Group block into the first column. Then, copy the sidebar from your blog page and place it into the second column. You can tweak the column widths just like in your blog page layout.

Thank you for sharing this video! I’ve been following all your content, and you’re absolutely amazing. I did notice one issue with the template, though. In the navigation section, the main pages are clickable, just like the sub-navigation pages. For example, take the "Blog" section: it would be better if the main "Blog" page didn’t open and instead only the sub-menus were accessible. Ideally, the link on the main "Blog" page should be disabled. However, I’m not sure if there’s currently a way to achieve that.

Thanks for the video. Is there a way to add a video instead of a featured image ? I was not able to see format option under the options tab. Also, when you set the feature image, it works great on the thumbnail but it gets pixelated when the same image is displayed on the blog page, any ideas how to fix it?
@TylerMoore2 ай бұрын
Hey @WorldInDays! For adding a video instead of a featured image, the easiest way would be using a plugin: Check the WordPress Plugin Directory for "featured video" plugins Look for one that's compatible with block themes and the latest WordPress version Check reviews and active installations to find a reliable option KZbin has some great tutorials for setting up these plugins Always backup your site before installing any new plugins! As for those pixelated featured images - that's usually because WordPress is using a smaller version of your image. The fix is pretty simple: make sure you're uploading high-quality images (at least 1920px wide).

Hey Tyler. I am wondering about sustainability of creating a website this way using a local/downloaded plugin that doesn't get updated automatically. Does this WP Packages plugin essentially act as a theme? Or is this a one stop shop with baked in plugins within your plugin? Please excuse my greenness :) I am trying to understand the difference between using this package vs using a theme and installing various plugins. Thanks in advance!
@TylerMooreАй бұрын
Hey Tim! The package basically gives you everything you need to hit the ground running. It includes the theme, WPForms Lite plugin, ready-made pages, and all the key settings. Think of it as a bundle to get you started quickly. You can add other plugins if you need extra functionality later.
@TimOrourke-x9pАй бұрын
@TylerMoore thanks for the reply, i really appreciate your help! My concern is utilizing a local copy of a theme and a local copy of plugins like the WPforms lite plugin you mention. My understanding is that themes and plugins should be updated regularly as developers make upgrades for security and other improvements. If this plugin provides all of this data locally, and it's not something that's maintained in the WP shop, how can I go about maintaining this site for the long term? I am trying to understand how to use what I'm understanding to be, a "snapshot", if you will, of a website. It's very possible I'm just misunderstanding something

What are the general guidelines for blog post widths, how wide should I go I notice on Tyler how-it-works/ you have used 1000px. If I do change the blog page width, presumably I should do this in single post template?
@TylerMooreАй бұрын
Hey @sliverfox! Thanks for your kind words, and that's a great question about content widths! Content readability is super important, especially for blog posts. Here are some general guidelines for content widths: Blog posts: 680-800px is considered optimal for reading comfort. That's why many themes default to around 800px - it helps readers maintain focus and reduces eye strain. Home/About pages: Wider widths (1000-1200px) work well here because they often have more diverse content like images, columns, and other visual elements. Yes, if you want to adjust the blog width, you can do this in single post template settings.

You can add a search box to the header using WordPress's built-in Search block. While editing your header, click the blue button with the plus sign, search for "Search," and insert the block where you want it to appear.

Hi Tyler, could you please advice on what theme and plugins to use to build a local government website that can use e - identification? and what the structure would like . thanks and great work!
@TylerMoore2 ай бұрын
For a government site, especially one using e-identification, security and compliance are super important. Here's a quick suggestion: Take a look at other government websites in your country. They'll give you a good idea of the structure and features you might need. Even better, try reaching out to their developers if possible. They'll have valuable insights about local regulations and best practices for e-identification. As for themes and plugins, it really depends on your specific needs and local requirements. A professional developer with experience in government sites would be your best bet for this kind of specialized project.

Two other questions, 1. I am using the theme like in your video. One thing I can't fix..., my blogs look great & I have a cover picture on the top of each. But when I click on my Blog tab, I see all my Blog post titles only....I want to see a picture and the a title. The same when I'm reading a blog and at the bottom when it says 'see next' or 'see previous', there is no picture but only a title. I don't know how to get the picture to show up. Is this possible? (I do have my blog posts separated into different sub-categories, and when I click on each sub-category, I can see a picture and title of each blog that look nice). 2. Speaking of Sub-categories for blog posts, can you set a different image for each sub-category page? I tried and all my sub-category pages changed to the same picture. Thanks.
@TylerMoore13 күн бұрын
For your first question, make sure you have a Featured Image set for every blog post. If the image still isn't showing, try clearing your cache. To do this, press Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Command + R (Mac) to clear your browser cache. If you're using caching plugins, clear the cache from their settings. Also, check with your hosting provider if there's any caching on their end that needs to be cleared.
@TylerMoore13 күн бұрын
For the second question, when you're on your category page, click Edit Site to edit the category template. Find the Cover block, highlight it, and in the small menu that appears, click Replace and select Use Featured Image. This will display the featured image from the latest post in that category.

Yes, the plugin will clean up the database. Here's how you can proceed: If you want to keep your existing content: Backup your site Create a staging site through your hosting provider. If you're unsure how to do this, their support team can help. Install the new blog on the staging site, transfer your content (text, images, etc.), and test everything out. Once you're satisfied, replace the old site with the new one. If you're starting fresh: Backup your site Use a plugin like WP Reset to wipe your site clean. Just be sure this is what you want because it deletes all existing pages and posts. Then follow the tutorial to install the new blog. And, always BACKUP your site before making changes! Here's how to do that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWObqWqpe5iFq8Ufeature=shared&t=4724.

Thank you so much Tyler and Andre! This was great! Apologies if I missed this somewhere. I've only used elementor before and when using it there is a handy little icon to click on that allows the user to see what the site looks like on mobile devices and makes it easy to make changes independently for each mobile device. Since I don't plan on using elementor and I plan on setting up my site following your instructions in this video, is a separate plugin needed to address the issue of the site being responsive on all mobile devices? (Forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology!) Thank you so much. You guys are fabulous.
@TylerMoore2 ай бұрын
Hey Rebecca! 😊 You’re totally on the right track with your question! The blog package in my tutorial is designed to be responsive, so your site should automatically adjust to different screen sizes, like mobile devices, using relative units (like rem or percent for font size and spacing). To preview how your site looks on mobile, you can use the device icon next to the “Save Draft” link in WordPress (here’s a visual: user-images.githubusercontent.com/70191331/279989968-a40fbfc5-36ef-4864-915a-7e1c83e7882f.png). Now, WordPress doesn’t offer built-in tools for editing mobile versions separately like Elementor does. If you want more control, you might want to try the Gutenberg Blocks Library & Toolkit - Editor Plus plugin. It gives you more flexibility for mobile-specific tweaks. Just keep in mind that this plugin hasn’t been updated recently, but it could still be helpful! And, as always, back up your site before installing any new plugins. 😊

First, make sure your domain is properly pointing to your hosting. Sometimes, it just needs a little time to connect. Next, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser to see if that helps. If you can't access your admin page, you can also try adding “/wp-admin” or "/wp-login.php" to the end of your domain URL to get back in. If none of these work, it might be a server issue, so reaching out to your hosting provider's support would be a good idea. You can also email support@tyler.com with more details about your site, like your hosting provider, WordPress version, PHP version, and any themes or plugins you have installed.
