I made a similar set from scraps I had left over from a construction project. Mine are taller and I put rubber pads on the very bottom board so they don't slip on concrete floor when driving up on them. Very stable and it was a fun project. I do like the idea of wheels to move them around. I'll probably add them to mine. Cheers!

Funny or not but i have metal ramps and they scratch my bumper every time because the car is lowered this is not a bad optin and it definitely won't slide forward when you trying to get that heavy thing to crawl up.
@dustincochran2700
@dustincochran2700 3 жыл бұрын
@@Naughty_Squad Easy solution for you. My car is also lowered and the parking platform on the ramps will not fit under my front end, it's higher than the bottom of the bumper. Determine the angle of your ramps, in my case it was 17 degrees. Measure how much length you need to prevent contact, 2 feet will probably suffice. Using a 2x6 (or 2x8 if your ramps are wide enough), cut the edge of the board corresponding to your ramp's angle. It should sit perfectly on the ramp with no gap. This extends the ramps and will lift your car 1.5" higher. If you need more, use 2 boards. Make this even better by counter sinking a couple bolts on each board that will drop through the existing holes on your ramps, essentially making keeper pins. RWD cars have a tendency to push the ramps on polished concrete. The bolts will prevent this. Works great.

The thumbnail caught my eye when I noticed that these ramps are nearly identical to the ones I made myself about a year ago. About the only difference is that I haven't put castors on mine. I made my own SAFE ramps after my full size truck crushed my store-bought ramps despite the ramps supposedly being able to support the weight. No way solid wood is getting crushed. The only drawback is that they are heavy. And everyone here keeps making the comment.."Why not just go out and buy some ramps?" Answer..."Because they suck!"

The most interesting about this upload was the "knee carts" since I never seen those before... Fun fact(that really says more about me than anything else), but I was seriously wondering how those small wheels where going to support the weight of the car! Haha! This since I really saw an application for the thing..like drive onto and then be able to ajust the cars position sideways which could be of use in a small garage/shop...now I just feel plain stupid;-)

I built a similar set of ramps about 30 years ago, but made mine with removable ramps. Much more versatile. Years later during Desert Storm, I had to change the nose gear tires on the KC-135 aircraft, without the proper nose gear jack. I built another set of ramps using 2 x12s, without the removable ramps. We towed the aircraft up on the ramps, then used the Main landing gear Jack on the nose gear. By putting the plane on ramps, it raised the nose tires enough to to get the MLG Jack between the tires. We ended up changing several tires using the ramps. When you have an aircraft weighing in at over 144,000 pounds, you do what you go to do to get the job done!

I have been planning on building the exact same thing for quite a while lol. It's kinda funny that this video popped up in my link even though I didn't research it. I have ramps but I need a longer more gradual raise because my vehicle is too low for factory ramps. I have the limber and all I just haven't needed them or had the time to piece together yet. The only difference that I had in mind was 1 small piece with 45 degree angle on both sides and the end side just a block with no angle. Personally I like my idea better but this would probably be a little easier should work as long as the end block isn't too high plus you might wanna be careful because it doesn't seem like it would make a good stop as the vehicle could just push it off. I suppose only a flat block or two laying down would give you a much better and safer stopping point and you could still use your coasters on another plank behind it which is actually quite a nice space saving idea I may inquire in mine provided I ever make it. I do have nice floor Jack's and stands but I feel much safer working under a vehicle that has all 4 wheels on the ground. Anyway nice video and quite clever.

Sorry, but you cannot claim the "invention" of something that has been already made by the hundreds for decades already.

Why not alternate the 45 and 90 degree cuts to save the excess wood?

Why make the angled cuts at all? They serve no purpose whatsoever given the diameter of a car tire! The tire will only contact the top edge, not the angled face. 😂 Also, why use swivel castors? Fixed ones would work better and not wobble!

Go to a bicycle shop and get a couple boxes the bikes come in. The large panels of each side are perfect for laying on, much better than the carpet. Doesn't wrinkle, easy to slide on and when the bolt or socket falls it is much easier to find.

If the purpose of the vertical piece is to stop the vehicle from driving forward too far, then I would suggest a design mod. Those horizontal fasteners will pull out under the load of a vehicle. Put a couple more horizontal pieces at the end of the ramp and install fasteners vertically. The sheer strength will be a lot higher than the withdrawal force your currently counting on.

Also, will the hammer action of the drill ( seems to be the norm now) effect the tensile strength.?

@@vprn95 use of an impact driver in soft wood such as these 2x won't weaken good fasteners. However, one can definitely weaken or break screws made of aluminum or long drywall screws.
