When do you change (finer) your lap disc? Dop? Next level on a flat lap..? Finally saw a flat lap video, I'm grateful. I know its possible to complete cabs without a cabbing machine...hope you share that process. Thanks so much. You'd be amazed what ISN'T on KZbin.

I start with 80 or 100 grit for shaping after that I move up grits 220, 600, 800, 1200. It gets difficult not putting faucets/ flat surfaces once you find the shape you want. Be patient and go slow. I mainly use the flat lap for shaping only and do the rest on the cab machine. Just being honest 👍👍 In the future I plan to change the motor out for something slower too help stop flat spots.

Why the aluminum scribe vs something like a felt tip marker? Water will wash of the marker?
@cb175s
@cb175s 3 жыл бұрын
The marks from the scribe are easy to see while wet and don't wash off. I also use a black Sharpe to mark areas with scratchesin final stages. It fills in the scratches with black and stands out well. I know the scratches are gone when the marks are removed.

@@exploringwithandrew5289 very cool, just take your time. If you can find soft grit pads for 600 and up. Those work awesome for final results. The metal diamond embedded plates in my video are best for shaping and faucets/ flat Surfaces. The soft diamond pads help with nice rounded edges. Don't know if that helps ? But if you find flat spots this will definitely help. Good luck 👍👍 I will be rebuilding the flat lap i made in the very near future. It's kinda scary... Lol 😆

I am not sure what youre using for a marker, Best is to use a Aluminum rod, sharpened to a point like a pencil.

I use an aluminum rod. I started with a sharpie and hated the very 1st day. Lol You can see the aluminum markings very well wet or dry.
