fyi, works better if you blend while still slightly warm. also you should pre-soak raw almonds to get rid the tannin and phytates which inhibit nutrient uptake and other issues. one case study shows 60% more magnesium and 20% more zinc are absorbed when phytates are removed. also these compounds bind to proteins and make them even harder to digest.

Mayda Minaya you need a powerful blender to make this. Crush your almonds in a mortar and pestle and then blend them by adding a little oil whenever required. Also don’t use your blender continuously. Blend for 15 seconds and then wait for 10 seconds. Then blend again. Keep doing this and don’t let your blender heat up. It might get fused otherwise.

@Downshiftology6 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea - welcome to the community and I'm so happy you're loving my videos! Also, big kudos to your for simplifying your life and adopting healthier habits. I'm sure those changes will benefit you heaps in your recovery! For the nut butters, they can be more difficult in regular blenders as you really need the tamper to push the nuts into the blades (especially on almond and cashew butters), as well as the higher powered motor. You can make them in a food processor though, they just take longer...about 20 minutes. :)

@@Downshiftology I use a 7 cup KichenAid food processor, with just my large chop blade in the bottom. I make a type of “nut” butter that doesn’t use any butter or oil - or even any “nuts”, for that matter, just “seeds”. This recipe is from the book: “Nature’s Cures,” by Dr. Arpelian, and I use the following recipe from her for “Arthritis and Osteoarthritis” (general bone and joint pain), which is very bad. Everyone responds differently, but I noticed a very real difference in about ten days. I have arthritis and osteoarthritis very badly, and everything else had failed, so I thought I’d give it a try. I use a combination of: 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds, 1/2 cup flax seeds, and 2 tab. sesame seeds. Process them very fine. To this add: 3 tab. finely chopped raisins (I like golden raisins) and process mixture again. Then add 2 pkg., (15 ml ea., or 2 tab. each) of unflavoured gelatine powder (dry) to that and process the mixture again until well mixed. Then I pour in 1 cup pure honey (room temp.) and process until you have a very homogeneous mixture, and will look very creamy and smooth - much like any nut butter! . This will fill a 500 ml glass jar. Put into fridge for up to 2 months. The directions say to take one tablespoon, three times a day, on an empty stomach. I found that using a blender made it more difficult to remove more of the final product from the jar and blades, but found it easier to clean my processor and blade without loosing almost any mixture. Warning: I tried to double the recipe and found that the mixture was too stiff for the motor of my machine and the “butter-like” mixture went up too far over the top of the blade spindle, fell down and then up into the inside of my blade. However, after cleaning everything up, and waiting for the motor to cool down, it did recover, but I only make just the above amount in it. Just thought I’d warn anyone. Hope this helps someone !

This batch fits in a small Skippy peanut butter container and the Simply Organic bag is a three cup measure FYI.

I just watched a video of making almond butter in the food processor and it takes 15-20 minutes! Thumbs up for Vitamix!

Yes, it's way faster and easier in a Vitamix!

Great video! straight to the point and easy enough to replicate i'm going to try this in my blendtec.. Question, l hate cold nut butters, how long will it last if l keep it airtight in the pantry? Thanks again
@Downshiftology7 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video! Unfortunately, homemade nut butters don't contain the sugar, salt and preservatives of commercial nut butters, so they will go rancid quite quickly. Even airtight it will be prone to bacteria growth. So I would not recommend storing in your pantry. The best thing is to take out as much as you'd like to enjoy that day, and let it come to room temperature before eating. :)

I just got a Vitamix 3300. I used it immediately to make almond butter. I roasted my four cups of almonds for 11 minutes at 350. However, when I blended them, they were so dry (not enough natural oil came out of the almond). So perhaps I didn't roast them long enough? How can I tell when it's been long enough without burning them? I had to add oil to the blender to get it smooth. Thanks

I have some raw cashews that I need to use. Do you ever make cashew butter? Would you roast them the same way you did the almonds? Thanks!
@Downshiftology7 жыл бұрын
Yes! All the time. And I actually just posted a macadamia cashew butter recipe on my blog. You could do this exact recipe with 100% cashews if you'd like as well. So creamy and delish! :) downshiftology.com/recipes/macadamia-cashew-butter/

I am watching the latest season of Masterchef UK, and in the first episode Marcus Wareing made a cashew butter for one of the skills test. The comment he made was that if you did not heat the nuts first the oil will split (he added olive oil during teh blending). FWIW.

All you gotta do is spend 600+ dollars on that blender then you can make homemade fresh almond butter..... 😑
@WalkingWman4 жыл бұрын
It is an investment if you cook daily and you eat these foods and frozen veggie and fruit smoothies and soups etc etc. also is it about 400$ and you can buy second hand too. I have mine 10 years and it is like new, used daily never an issue it looks great and works great. At the same time I have bought my mom 4 less expensive blenders from 60-150$ and they keep braking apart every year.

Serenity Princess not true, I used a cheap 20 yr old smoothie maker. And my mixed nut butter turned out amazing, you just need to blend longer and stir a few times

Free from vegetable oil? Almonds have oil?
@HenryPiffpaff6 жыл бұрын
Gasgiant I assume they would rather count as nuts than vegetable but you have a point. Also I wonder why vegetable oils are unwanted? There are many vegetable oils with health benefits
@Darkempress456 жыл бұрын
Kai E. Most vegetable oils contain GMO ingredients and are chemically processed making it unhealthy. Expeller pressed healthy oils like avocado oil and olive oil aren’t neutral enough in taste to pair well with the almond butter and would overwhelm the natural almond taste. Lastly, yes, almonds produce their own oils which is why she roasted them first to help bring the oils out. 🤗
@Darkempress456 жыл бұрын
Gasgiant yes, almonds have natural oils which is why she roasted the almonds first, to bring out all of that natural oil. Many cosmetic companies use almond oil in beauty and hair products for its nutritive and moisturizing properties. Almond oil however isn’t good for frying or sautéing food as the smoke point isn’t very high at all and would cause the oil to burn quickly producing free radicals which can cause cancer.

I’m so distressed I didn’t watch this before literally standing 30 minutes blending raw almonds, my blender got soo hot I couldn’t even touch it. I stopped blending and I put the almond clumps in a jar, definitely will try it again with toasted almonds! Thank you so much for the information I would have bought a jar for legitimately 18 pounds!!

Must it be stored in fridge?
@Downshiftology7 жыл бұрын
Yes. It will quickly go rancid if left on the countertop or in a pantry as there's no preservatives.

I do the same in my Blendtec twisterjar with out using a tamper..and add 1/2 tsp. Redmonds seasalt. Use it on my homemade sourdough bread toast in the morning.

I respect that some people enjoy their vitamix, I have used it at the restaurant where I work and do not like it at all! Having to move and press while it blends is very difficult when preparing several servings, and when not, it’s annoying! I recommend the Ninja, which has blades all the way up!

2/14/23: I've got one and have had it now for approximately ten years and believe me it works far better than any blender I've ever had or known. It's a powerhouse tool that does it all. It can be pricey, depending on where you get it, try Costco if there's one in your area and they happen to be there demonstrating its usefulness. You won't regret it -- EVER!! (Dang, I should be a rep for Vitamix...LOL!!) 😂
@knife3 Жыл бұрын
@@conishkee you’d make so much commission!! But yes, I don’t always want to be reliant on store-bought items. When you make nut butter (if you do): Will it get smoother the more you blend it? I want smooth as Nutella :))
