You can also use a piece of 3/4 or 1inch pvc in the ground and put the ends of the 1/2 in into it. Works fine and is cheaper.

Yes, that is what I do. PVC is easier to work with than rebar.

This is what I do because one piece of 2 ft rebar is $5 here. I can get 10ft of pvc for same price.

They have connectors to hold the top cross pieces in place, too. Also, you can use velcro pieces to keep the ends closed.

Every time I have a question about something or research a topic, you never fail to come out with a video to answer my question...lol. I was just researching your channel for information on hoop tunnels just yesterday. I only found a video for ladder remesh . I was about to do those but decided to do pvc. I would like to do those in the summer to cover some things for pests. We did the pvc frame part yesterday. You gave me a better option to provide stability to the top by weaving the pvc through. I thought we would need to drill it in or wrap it a lot. I planned to take it down later in the warm season. But now, I have more options to use them as trellises too. Thanks so much.

I cover with: Insect netting for seedlings. Shade cloth in the summer. Plastic for greenhouse effect.

Same here. It is so versatile. The trellis can go through the center of the garden too by attaching the netting to the top center of the hoops with zip ties. Also even cheaper than PVC is balck plastic tubing. That is what I use. Instead of rebar I use bamboo. Rebar will last longer though.

Just had a 14ft x 3'8" wide raised garden, your idea is good, as the rebar design will accommodate a climbing rose but allow a protection effect for other plantings. You're in ML, I'm in central ON. Will try to adapt on that. Thank you.

QUESTION: zone 7a do you leave your hoop house / low tunnel plastic on all the time at this point in the season and only open for water and to manage the plants or are you waiting for the weather to get even colder? I just put my plastic on last night but we have full sun today high of 60°. Should I open the plastic mid day or leave to absorb the heat?

Did you use 1/2” dia pvc pipe, I would like to do this on my raised bed I have only one and my lemon drop watermelon is getting cold maybe if I cover it it will get warm and grow bigger, thank you for the tips 😊👩‍🌾👍 take care

It was 1/2 inch. You can go up a size too. Just depends on what you want. The melon wont get much benefit though. The soil is cooling and that is what affects it the most. Would you be able to over winter bell peppers in this? Zone 6a
@janking2762
@janking2762 Жыл бұрын
I doubt it, as I live in 6B and our peppers under a hoop house freeze in December. But may try a low trellis under a taller trellis(2 layers of Remay). Eliot Coleman says that two layers of frost protection material puts the plants about 3 climate zones warmer, see The Winter Harvest Handbook, p.56).
@THERUSTEDGARDEN
@THERUSTEDGARDEN Жыл бұрын
You can only over winter if whatever you use keeps temps really over 45 degrees for peppers. This would have freezing temps. The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com Thanks... Do you think this would work for an elevated raised bed (a container raised off the ground)? The sides of the bed only run about 6" deep, but go deeper in the center like a trough.
