Just finished this cake last night and let me tell you it is amazing! I used the lesser amount of apples and brushed the layers with an apple cider reduction for a little concentrated apple flavor. The cake was moist and delicious but the browned butter frosting really stole the show. I used homemade apple chips dusted with cinnamon to decorate. A++. Going to try it with pears for thanksgiving .

I used the recipe doubled with the addition of 1 1/4 C finely chopped candied pecans to make 40 wonderful cupcakes. They baked at 350 for 23 minutes. I frosted them with dulce de leche frosting. They are just the right amount of sweet after a ladies' luncheon. ( The dulce de leche buttercream is made by beating 2 cans of cold dulce de leche with 1 c chilled but not firm browned butter until fluffy. Add vanilla to taste. I keep the cupcakes refrigerated until about 30 minutes before serving. )

I made this cake last night and I'm so excited to try it later today! I'm very much the amateur and really appreciate all your tips and how well you explain everything. Your cakes are elegant and lovely and that's what I aspire to present as well. I'm assuming you used light brown sugar for your caramel? After the fact it seems pretty obvious but being the novice I am I used what I had which was dark brown. So my caramel is darker than yours and I probably could've let it cook longer because my drip game is weak, but I'll keep practicing! Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent!

@@juliebeemalaki225 I used 2- 8inch pans. Recipe was equivalent to mine, so I didn't have to change any measurements. I was disappointed because mine came out dry and had a crust even though I baked it for 40 minutes exactly with cake strips. It was my first time using cake strips but idk what I did wrong there. The buttercream is a tad sweet, but it's hard because you need it to hold up to pipe. But the buttercream and caramel are SO GOOD and the cake itself is more spice-y than sweet, so it works.

How much butter did you brown for the buttercream? He says to use a pound of butter, which last time I checked is four sticks. But I really want to make this cake, and I don't want to screw it up.
