Very similar to my grandmother's recipe, except we add chunks of Granny Smith apples to it. I wanted to make it today, but my recipe is at home in Houston. So, I searched & found your video! Thank you, so much! Looks awesome!

Usually, applesauce cakes have raisins, prunes, currants and dates. They can be soaked in brandy and the cake is often drizzled with rum, brandy and/or bourbon. This recipe descended from the English "figgy pudding'. Warm slightly before serving.

I just made this cake today, however the recipe I got did not have ginger?? and it had 1 tsp of baking powder also...it turned out good anyway. I will try it your way next time...thanks.

No shade, but 2 tsp of baking soda plus salt is a little excessive. While I can appreciate your step by step instructions, it was too much for my patience,so I skipped to the written recipe.
