Time for the big porsche duck tail and nice front splitter. Some vents in the top of the front wings too.

A guy that does circuit and uphill races with a beetle told me on a forum that most of the lift on the front axle is caused by the fenders. The beetle has no inner fenders and there is a lot of room around the wheels. At higher speeds the fenders almost act like a sail. He added some large vents to the front fenders and it reduced the lift drastically. That’s not very practical for a streetcar but maybe it’s possible to use some custom inner fenders and vents to redirect the airflow and further reduce the lift on the front axle.

In this video, it's easy to notice the work that aerodynamicists at VW went through to help the air cooled engine get some fresh air while being stuffed in the back. Pretty fascinating, considering that the Beetle design dates from the early 30's.

I see a lot of hearsay about spoilers on Bugs, I think this is the first actual data-driven experiment. Very well done! What I'm curious about - and doing my own experiments to try to figure out - is if spoilers like these could also reduce drag to improve gas mileage. For this electric one, I'd think that would be a high priority for improving range. Would have been really cool to see the smoke test with the spoiler on to show how it changes flow, alongside the data of how much lift it reduced.

I’ve seen videos of beetles doing flips around 130 on the drag strip, it doesn’t help that they’re accelerating hard at that speed and rear wheel drive!

If its electric. Put the batteries in the front boot. The weight should keep the nose from lifting.

You have to be careful pushing a VW Beetle too fast. The body is somewhat aerodynamic, the faster you go the more lift it produces. In the 60's a guy put a gas turbine in a Bug and on a run down the quarter mile it left the ground at around 150 MPH. Nasty crash.

The VW Beetle was made to be a cheap/affordable, simple, reliable commuter car....... I think they should go back to their roots & build a cheap/affordable , simple/easy to work on, reliable electric commuter car. With a few updates like electric 4WD & better aerodynamics.
