Love the diamond/bow tie look. For end grains I love to use a chamfer bit on the bottom and leave the top square, kind of makes it look like it’s floating. I would 100% recommend walrus oil rather than the oil at Lowe’s/Home Depot. I’ve been using it for a while now and I apply it by hand as well, and let me tell you, the wood feels healthier since I’ve been using it. Once you try it you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Check them out!

Nice video. I've always been worried to line up the joints like that, essentially leaving a few continuous joints through one piece, and so I've always opted to stagger them like when laying bricks. Have you ever run into an issue of that creating a weak spot? One tip, there is no need to buy that expensive "cutting board oil" (just for clarification I'm not talking about the beeswax one). You can buy mineral oil in at any pharmacy for closer to 3 or 4 bucks. The mineral oil in a pharmacy is meant for human consumption, so it is definitely food grade.
@Fixthisbuildthat5 жыл бұрын
I've never had an issue with the seam down the middle. That's a long grain joint so it's super strong. Not much different that a glue up up two boards into one panel

I’m a new woodworker, only about a year. I’ve made two cutting boards so far, and I find that when I am finishing with the mineral oil and Beeswax oil combo you used, that it still feels oily for a while after. Granted, I haven’t been the one using these, as they were both gifts, but I am curious if you have any advice for getting them cleaned up nice. It seems that no matter how much I wipe and wipe, it still feels a little oily on my fingers. Any advice for me?? Thanks, love watching your videos!!

Question ; Why is putting n end grain board thru a planer a bad idea ? THANX FOR THE VIDEO !!!!
@samrowe28894 жыл бұрын
Hey if you or anyone else is still around I have a question that is really putting my board on hold ok so I have the glue up done but none of the edges are flush or straight like the sides are a little wavy so I dont have an edge to run against my table saw to trim the fat as it were can u help me come up with a solution I know how to make a bowed board straight using some screws and a factor edge board but I dont want to screw into my end grain board and I dont have clamps that will work on my table saw
@philgath16993 жыл бұрын
Nice work. Why don't you wipe the glue off with a wet rag straight away?
@JackmanWorks5 жыл бұрын
Heyyyy, that trick isn't supposed to work with squeaky clean clamps. I thought you had to level up by having grimy clamps like me to make it work. Actually.... that sounds like it could be the next Woodpeckers product, the Woodpeckers Clamp Cleaner in red anodized aluminum 😂

Awesome work. I don’t have a drum sander so when I do end grain birds through the planer, I will glue on an extra border strip of pine to prevent tear out. Is that what you were earning against? Or is there another potential mistake I’m not accounting for?
@Fixthisbuildthat5 жыл бұрын
just google "planing end grain" and you'll see the horror stories

I had a feeling the walnut was going to be cutting boards. I wasn't expecting end grain AND patterns though. I wish I had your supply of walnut. Do you get your wood locally? I only have Chattanooga hardwood and Woodcraft near me. Love your work, but you keep making my "project list" bigger lol. Might try this after I finish my wife's purple-heart phone speaker. Gonna bake it tonight to bring out the purple before poly.
