In today's video, we learn the basics of FM Radio transmission and how to make a FM radio Transmitter. The most proactively use I can think of for this is just as a device to play music from your phone on your car's radio, although the principal could be scaled up, it is likely illegal without a radio license to broadcast to a large area. So yeah! Thanks guys! :)

If you're having trouble seeing the waveform of the oscillator on your scope, use the X10 setting on your scope probe. The X10 setting reduces the loading on your oscillator and will not only make it easier to see, it won't load down the oscillator and detune it as much.

Heya, Keystone! Another fantastic video. I was wondering what level of mathematics/physics/signal processing you've been through. I can't quite tell whether you know the equations or if you're finding them off of wikipedia or the like. If you are in fact recalling the equations from academic experience, I'd love to see a greater theoretical expansion of some of the circuit behavior! Thanks!

@Elfnetdesigns

No to get more range you will need to tune the antenna itself to the operating frequency of the transmitter. You can change out the transistor from a GP (general purpose) NPN to an actual RF power transistor rated at like 5 watts and up to 200 MHz. I have experimented with all this years ago and I used old CB radio power transistors and they work but they cut off at typically 100 MHz, The power transistors out of old VHF Hi band 2-wat radios work though because most of those transistors have a broad range like 30 - 300 MHz or something of the sort. Those are the round white 4 tab ones with aLOT of solder. also of course you will also have to make modifications and adjustments to the circuit in the video to handle the power and maintain resonance / stability, heatsink the transistor and you will need more than a 9V battery also. Something in the nature of 12 VDC @ 2 amps at least for a 1 watt transmitter.. You want to keep your power under 1 watt and frequency below 92 MHz in the US to use without a license though.. There are diagrams online for higher power FM circuits though that may be easier to go by.

Isn't the sleeve of the TRS connector the ground? I thought it went Right, Left, Ground from tip to sleeve? Just looked it up and apparently older Nokias and Samsungs have it the way you mention in the video. I actually like that pinout more as the ground is probably the first thing to make contact with the receptacle.

Actually there are many sites all over the internet which provide us with circuits diagrams and tutorials on how can you make it. But frankly speaking I didn't like anyone one of them and also I tried making the circuit thrice as per the sites but it didn't worked as I thought it should. Do you think you can help me with it???

So you asked for a few suggestions and there are a bunch of potentially cool things i think you could do. Peltier devices are really interesting and would probably make for a good video in some way if it piques your creative interests. Also I've gotten a liking for "lowtech hightech" projects where you cobble something awesome together. But I've always wanted there to be a series where you go through a bunch of connected projects to slowly reveal a bigger project using the parts. Like if you came up with a 'post distaster survival guide' where you start rebuilding functionality, but with a slight bit of 'story' for creative flexibility. Maybe you need to bodge together a diy door number pad system that could use this fmTx to 'ring' the doorbell and announce who you are with a microphone or whatnot. I think it would be fun for you to make, as well as fun for the viewers to watch, and I know I'd be spending the limbo in between videos recreating the projects in the videos. This is a bit of a ramble but yeah, it'd be fun i think.

The 30pF cap in series with the antenna is for decoupling so the antenna wire has low effect on the resonance however the antenna wire should be cut to length to match the desired frequency for best results. also you can legally operate up to 1 watt? on FM band between 87 - 92 MHz without a license as this is the non commercial part of the band. 92 - 107.9 is the commercial part and you are limited to I think 10 mW or something stupid low power... However even in the non commercial section anything over 1 watt to 1 KW I think requires an LPFM (Low Power FM) license and good luck getting that without being backed by a corperate media group or you have a pile of lottery money.. You really should use enamled wire for the inductor also
