That is just stunning. I'm a purple person, so that is as perfect of a shirt as it gets! :)

Thank you! I really love inclines and the effect that they give a tie dye.

This shirt is beautiful. I like the dimension that the darker purple puts on the design. I'm not a heart person, but this one is strong and not so sentimental.

Recommendations on drying your shirt. My granddaughter is really loving doing tie dye. Her shirts come out great until she hangs them to dry and the colors start to bleed together. Is she not rinsing enough or is there another method to drying your shirt
@FunEndeavors4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad your granddaughter is having fun tie dyeing. Some colors are worse to bleed than others, but here's what I do. I rinse my shirts in cold water (while they are still tied) until large amounts of color stop bleeding out of the shirt. This cold rinse will get out the excess soda ash that is in the shirt. Then I gradually warm the water up and continue to rinse. By this time, there shouldn't be much color bleed coming from the shirt. Then I untie the shirt and continue rinsing. If the shirt is still bleeding color (some colors like turquoise are harder than others to get totally rinsed out), I will put the shirt in my utility sink and soak it in very hot water that I've added just a drop of liquid Dawn dish detergent to. The hot water will help any of the dye that isn't bonded to the shirt to discharge out. I continue to change the water and repeat the soaking process until the water is almost clear. Then I put the shirt in the washing machine with Dharma's Textile Detergent and wash it in hot water. I usually wash it in the washing machine 2 times. Have fun tie dyeing!

what do you use to tie it up?? i do not have english as my first language and i couldn't understand properly what that is. Amazing video, really enjoyed it❤

Thank you! I use sinew on the heart portion: amzn.to/2EF28Lu I use kite string on the rest of the shirt: www.acehardware.com/departments/hardware/chain-and-rope/ropes/75845 You could use rubber bands though in place of the kite string.

What is the purpose of isolating the front and back of the shirt? Does it make the heart more clear?
@FunEndeavors4 жыл бұрын
No. What it does is it makes the dye more even on the front and the back. When I just fold a shirt in 1/2 the 2 sides to the front of the shirt are on the outside and the 2 sides to the back of the shirt are on the inside. So, if I apply something different to both sides of the shirt (like 1 color on the front and 1 on the back) - both sides of the front of the shirt could look very different. If I fold it with the 2 centers together - then both sides of the front and both sides of the back are together. The back and front might look a bit different from each other, but the 2 sides of the back and the 2 sides of the front will look more symmetrical. If I've planned my dye design before I tie my shirt, I try to fold this way if I'm dyeing different colors on the front and back.

what rope is it tied with?
@FunEndeavors10 ай бұрын
I tie the heart portion with an artificial sinew that is wax coated. The wax coating helps to keep the area under it from getting dyed so that it remains white. Here is a link to the one that I use. amzn.to/2EF28Lu The rest of the shirt I tie with kite string where I don't want to hinder the dye flow and I don't want white lines in the shirt. I purchase that from Ace Hardware, and here is a link to the one that I use: www.acehardware.com/departments/hardware/chain-and-rope/ropes/75845

Do you ever add the soda ash to the dye? People in our group are using it that way with HWI technique, and I thought it might be useful with ice dyes to get even coverage. Have you ever tried it?
@FunEndeavors4 жыл бұрын
No, I usually just sprinkle it on top. I'm intrigued by the HWI method, but I haven't given it a try yet.

What was the tie you used by the heart?

I tied the heart with sinew. I have a link below the video in the description for the kind of sinew that I use.

I love your site! My question is , do you wash it first in soda ash as well as sprinkling soda ash on top of the ice? Thank you !
@FunEndeavors3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I soak the shirt in a soda ash solution (1 cup of soda ash and 1 gallon of water) and then I sprinkle additional dry soda ash over the top of the dye.

No, I haven't done a puzzle piece, but I remember someone else doing a design like that. I just did a search and it was Mr. Tie Dye. He made an Autism Awareness shirt, and it looks really cool. I'll add a link to it for you to his video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWbai52nrbhsecU

The entire process is PAINSTAKING! It’s not so simple to just “re-do” a video once most of recording/dyeing is complete. It would require starting a whole new project. Personally, I am grateful for what you were able to capture and post, Angie-even though I am quite late in finding this gem! Many thanks to you, as always.
