I've managed to 'convert/adapt' a few of these rubber models to electric. Covid killed indoor flying last year and restrictions on travel and gathering prevented other attempts to maiden. I have the Vintage Corsair, modified with ailerons. Just about ready to fit wings. The whole process of build convert and fly is simpler now spektrum have the block receiver. You could even fit a brushless motor with some Rx boards...

The receivers are dirt cheap. I have 4 of them. They are a no brand receiver that works on a Spektrum Transmitter. They are feather weight light. The battery weighs more than any thing else. Now days you can get a combination receiver and control for the tail.This is a three channel system. Awesome video. I found a place that still sells the balsa plane kits in the next town over.

I have been working along the same lines now since hearing about the silly over the top draconian regulations coming into force in October 2019,I see a great future now for micro R/C and they are real fun to fly as well,good to see that the Vintage Model company are offering these flight packs to install into their kits and leading the way forward,others will no doubt follow. Ailerons is the way to go for the low wingers I found the easiest way is via a torque tube arrangement in the wing straight to the ailerons,you can use the newly availablew paper straws built into the structure with carbon rods operating inside the tubes and have one central micro servo to operate both ailerons,you can also use rudder successfully on low wing types provided you add plenty of dihhedral to keep the fuselage sitting low like they did with the old vintage models of yesteryear ( check out Colonel Bowdens Spitfire for example ) I have flown Bf.109's & Hurricane's for example with adequate rudder only control done this way. I have not been able to locate these Spektrum brick receivers ? does the VMC supply them and if so what price please ? I am also hoping that the too low 250 gram rules will be ammended to an higher weight limit to accomodate the heavier batteries rather than just a 1S,something that would give an adequate wing loading for say a jumbo rubber model size would be even better for flying outdoors. We must never allow the freedom of model building and flying die and the answer could lie in these small radio models which are economical to build and fly,please keep us informed of any new developments and let us know also when the new Aerographics range with radio conversions are due out,the video you did recently with the designer mentioned that he was modifying their Auster kit. Another great video,your work is a credit to the Vintage Model Company.
@jakegarrett81095 жыл бұрын
250 gram is way heavier than you need for multi-cell, that should not be limiting you to 1 cell! I have a 4s 800+mAh pack on my race quad, and if it’s doing 100+ mph and still under 250 grams, then you’ve just gotta quite building your planes out of lead, haha! Soon I’m planning on building a 150+ mph airplane under the 250g limit (I’m hoping around 200 mph, looking at canvas biplanes right out of ww1 hitting 350+ mph makes me really think if I can’t hit 200 mph with modern carbon fiber composites and high power motors with 6s battery, then I must not be trying hard enough if I’m much of an aerospace engineer! Ambitious? Maybe, but also maybe not as much as you might think... old biplanes from the 1930s can do it, so I should be able too!

"How come you didn't use a Testflite 2 cell Basic BL P51 19" Mustang reciever instead of the Spectrum reciever? You could of installed 1.3 linear long throw servos in the wings for areons. I think I was one of the people who gave you the idea of converting your airplanes into a R.C. airplane. I'm happy to see this video. Thank you!

As long as it is a DSMX radio, you should have no problem binding to the micro receiver board. To be on the safe side, you can check with Spektrum themselves. The AR6410L has some documentation on their website that goes into which radios will work.

Interesting stuff, I fly my rubber-powered models near many trees, so have been contemplating rc-assist for a while. Do you post the weights of your components?
@SkidzFPV5 жыл бұрын
Crashrr I think most rc-assist free flight guys just use a nano actuator on rudder that’s lighter than the brick to keep them closer to actual free flight style but avoid trees, you should check them out, they are essentially just a electro magnet on the rudder hinge so you don’t have precise control just a certain angle left or right

Bloody Brilliant! 👍👍 My good Mate, Rob Brennan, got me excited about your Kits. He's built quite a few, with great skill. 👌 He prefers simply Free Flight... But I've always been into RC. I was HOPING for this!! 😁 Would you reckon that a small (1106, 2800kv) Brushless Outrunner Motor could be used instead? Much more efficient, twice the Flight time, longer Motor life. I realise a dedicated Firewall would have to be built and custom fitted... Would that overwhelm the Airframe!! Same 5X3 Prop, 1S or 2S Batry... Maybe on a larger model of yours, like the Avianca. Feedback? Carmine ✈🚂🚙
