Pique is my favorite. Looks richer. Then again, the stained glass looks oh so cute!. Thanks for the excellent video.

Hi timeenuf! I agree with you regarding pique assiette v stained glass. I don't think my exploration of ungrouted stained glass will end with this experiment. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🌟

I'm thinking you could pick up some cheap frames with glass from a craft or thrift store. Put the design on the glass, remove the back and add strips of wood to hold it in. Could make a nice inexpensive gift using scrap glass. Ok I think that's Project # 83,208 now on my list of crafts to do before I can't make a mess anymore. 😀

I work in stained glass. I will try this, but want to make them on clear glass not canvas. Then the light will shine through. Thank you and happy to see you're able to create again. Blessings 🤗🍂

Welcome back! I agree with your assessment. The s.g. groutless lines could possibly be filled with seed beads.

Hi Karen-Lyn! Thank you!😊 Ohhhh, seed beads would be fun! This ungrouted mosaic exploration will continue. I'm loving the possibilities. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Hi Julie! So glad you're back to mosaics. Looks like I have some catching up to do. Loving the ungrouted projects as I really don't like the clean up. I think they're fabulous. Thanks.

Hi Donna! Thanks for your kind words. Ungrouted mosaics are a nice break from the usual grouted variety. I think we'll definitely explore this idea more on my channel. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

I agree with you. I prefer the Pique Assiette. I’m wondering how you could grind those tiny little circles! Great lesson - thanks so much!
@JulieWeilbacher Жыл бұрын
Hi there! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the video. As for grinding those tiny glass circles....ha! That's why I keep my fingernails short, and my thumb and pointer were cut up and aching the rest of the day.😂 But so worth it! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Glad you are back in the groove! I really liked the ungrouted broken plate mosaic. Probably because I know how much work cleaning off grout would add. And I prefer grout on stained glass. Thanks for the side by side!

Hi Tonya! Thanks for the warm welcome back.😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the video and side-by-side comparison. Never fear, we aren't done with this topic.😂 Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!⚡

What about using see through stained glass? I'm a newbie and have the remains of a multi colored stained glass light but you can see through some of the pieces. I am LOVING your video's, thank you so much for making them!!

I have seen ungrouted stained glass where the tess was lauded quite tightly and that created yet another look that I quite like. More “painterly”.

Thank you. Also such ungrouted pieces should be indoors right? What other aspects should be considered when going for an ungrouted piece?

Hi i love your work. what if I did this heart shape on 12x12 canvas board .will the pieces stay or fall off after a few month ? Thank you
@JulieWeilbacher11 ай бұрын
Hi Kamal! Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it.😊 The pieces will stay on an artist canvas board as long as you use an adhesive that works for your tesserae....and as long as your tesserae isn't super heavy. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Have you used or heard of clear grout that assumes the color of the surrounding tile? “Starlike” is the name brand.
@JulieWeilbacher Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Have you tried it?🤔
@skiddledede8885 Жыл бұрын
No. It is a bit costly, but a large container, premixed. I think I will though.

many thanks for all your videos. Do you grind the edges of stained glass pieces or even ceramic pieces. I worked on mosaic stained glass panel but when I was adding grout, the sharp edges injured my fingers. Please advise when you have like 100s of stained glass pieces how to avoid having those sharp edges due of cutting glass.
@JulieWeilbacher9 ай бұрын
Hi there! I know exactly what you mean. Keep the bandaids close! UGH. Yes, I definitely grind sharp points and edges of stained glass. With ceramic pieces I can sometimes nip them off, but that's on a case-by-case basis. Also, sometimes I'll use a grinding stone. This video shows you all the methods I use to get rid of sharp points and jagged edges: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6OudpqtpaylZ5Y. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Do you ever varnish ungrouted mosaics and if so, what type of varnish do you use? Thanks again Julie
@JulieWeilbacher11 ай бұрын
Hi there! I don't varnish them. I consider ungrouted mosaics complete once I'm done tiling (or framing them if that's the route I want to go). Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!⚡

So cute! If you did want to grout. Would the canvas substrate work with grout?
@karen-lynpenton2427 Жыл бұрын
It might be better to use a ceramic tile instead. The moisture of the grout could affect the canvas under your pieces, but you could certainly try. And you'd definitely need to tape around your design. Grout is messy.
@JulieWeilbacher Жыл бұрын
Hi Mona! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You would need to build your mosaic differently in order to give the canvas a chance of holding up to the grout. You aren't the only one who's asked about grouting on canvas so you can believe we'll be diving deeper into this topic in a future video. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

I've wondered about trying to sandwich stained glass pieces ungrouted, between clear pieces of glass perhaps incorporating some dried flower pieces as well. I wasn't sure how to deal with the edges or what to use to adhere, but looks like Wellbond might work. I want to use them as window dangles. Edging ideas would be appreciated. I want them ungrouted so that light from the window can replace the grout and play with the colored light from the stained glass. I've not tried this yet so no idea if it will work.

Oh Sandra! Your creative mind is going!✨ Love it! Great ideas. You won't know until you try. Another great adhesive for clear glass mosaic is clear silicone. Keep creating and and I'm thankful you're here!🙌

I’m not sure I like them without grout. I think if you are going for the minimalist look it could work. I like grout. I made a pumpkin that looked like candy corn using a pixie sculpt with no grout and it was out cool but still felt like something was missing. Thanks for your videos! You are already great and I learn something new!💕

Hi there! I agree. It's definitely a look that takes a little getting used to. This is an idea I'm going to play around with more. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Why not use acrylic paint on your penciled design then attach the glass? You could use black behind the pumpkin for example. I came upon this video while searching for your one on tinting grout. LOL! Maybe I don't have to now. Thank you for these videos, Julie. I've learned so much from them. And you cover EVERYthing. I don't have to look anywhere else on KZbin for a particular subject. Just have to search your library.

Hi there! Awww, thank you for your kind words.😊 I greatly appreciate it. I chose not to use paint over my pencil marks because I couldn’t get an exact color match. I didn’t want it to stand out. You can paint your glass with special paint made just for glass. Cool stuff! Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!✨

I wish I knew you didn't have to grout. I made a mosaic portrait of my favorite singer Steve Perry and I was soooo disappointed after grouting it. Grouting it made him look washed out. Now I've been trying to fix it by painting the grout, but I can't get the same look prior to grouting. I'm very sorry that I grouted it.
