I am repairing my greenhouse now. This video is just in time.

I've been thinking of doing this to our 30' wide Gothic high tunnel. Same concept, right? The frame is 2" OD 14 gauge steel with 1.163" OD 17 gauge purlins. Do you sell truss material? Thanks for the helpful content!

Certainly the same concept, although with a wider span you may want to consider a truss that is 1-5/8” OD steel, and also four truss supports as opposed to two; this is referred to as “w-style” supports as opposed to “v-style” when there are only two supports. You could still employ the use of end-cups for the 1-5/8” OD tubing, and 1-3/8” OD tubing. If you were only able to use 1-3/8” tubing for all of it, I have seen that before too. Looks nice! Good of you to describe the techniques to make the structure stronger and how the strengthening🙂works.👍Great!

Nice tip . I was thinking of reusing een old party tent ( or several ) as a high tunnel . I was thinking as concrete to make is sturdier , that means that i have to think in advance were to put things like screws .

Very cool. Before committing to old tents as framing I would recommend checking the outer diameter of that tubing to make sure it is an outer diameter that will work well with common greenhouse hardware like two-hole straps, purlin clamps, cross connectors, and brace bands. Hopefully it is either 1-3/8” OD, 1-5/8” OD, or 2” OD. Not absolutely a requirement but would certainly make for an easier build if the old tent frames were one of those outer diameters. I see that you are bracing a low wall which I have wanted to do as well. Question, is ther a way to detertmine the best placement for the (maximum support) the arms that go from the "rafter" to the bow
@tunnelvisionhoops10 ай бұрын
A general rule of thumb is to use the horizontal rafter as a guide. If doing two supports, one to the left and one to the right of the center purlin, I would try to roughly have that support connect to the bow directly between the center purlin and the point where the horizontal member attaches to the bow. Then this support piece would attach to the horizontal rafter about a third of the way down the horizontal rafters length. It is a little difficult to tell but if you look at the finished trusses in the video, the horizontal member has three sections that are fairly equal: from the bow to the support connection, then between the support connections, and then from the support connection to the bow again. This “law of thirds” is an approximate way to determine where you would want your supports to connect to the horizontal piece. Once you know that you can measure from the horizontal piece to place your support will connect to the bow, cut some steel, and the. Get one set up to see if you like how it looks. You can always adjust the rest of them, but this would be a good starting point, in my opinion. Hopefully the above makes sense… it is kind hard to write out what I am visualizing, but hopefully it comes through. Thanks for watching

Hoping to be approved for the NRCS High tunnel grant/cost share program so I can get a high tunnel! 🤞
