Do you think all of this open source free software will secretly use our creations to sell to programmers and companies working on making meta-universes ? Essentially making us the backbone of their worlds for free all due to passion. Kinda like how Minecraft multiplayer worlds existed in the beginning
@intr42 жыл бұрын
Woah ahahahha imagine! I highly doubt, watch any of Ton Roosendaal's interviews and you'll understand how he so vehemently stuck by his principle of keeping blender (Neogeo at the time) free for all. I doubt theres any booky malpractice going on, in the background- technically being open source that means that any instance of you downloading it means YOU own it too. Any work you make on there is yours, man i love blender dont even get me started im sure its v clear ahahah
@maxximus89042 жыл бұрын
nopp free and open source software would be called out by the communities backing them if they ever stole personal data Most people managing these open source software packages are people who care more about privacy and keeping your own data to yourself than most closed source companies
@sandsandwich2 жыл бұрын
I think blender co. is clean for sure, the people who head open source projects seem like they're usually very ethical, but you're right in that larger companies definitely will take advantage of the work that people do out of love, that work being the backbone of every open source project. For example GitHub's (Microsoft's) new copilot AI is a for-profit product, while being an AI that was trained on the millions and millions of open-source lines of code that are stored on GitHub. And the games industry in general relies a lot on workers' passion for their work to motivate them so they can sidestep paying them a fair wage and treating them like human beings.Anyways. love Blender and Godot, incredible that people can dedicate basically their entire lifes work to making such a great tool available for the public.
@sandsandwich2 жыл бұрын
My point being, with the Microsoft example, that they don't even have to do anything "sketchy" like putting in spyware to their programs to profit off of people's work, they just have a position of power as the owners of the world's largest code repository site
@sandsandwich2 жыл бұрын
And you mentioned Facebook/meta and they're even worse. Maybe I sound a little crazy right now but even the internet itself was never a for-profit venture, people just came along later and made money off it you know. People inherently want to create good things, and share them, I think, and that's the beating heart of what makes the internet a good thing and a good place to be, but people will always try to take advantage of that.hope I'm making sense I don't know why I decided to write all this today right now at this moment

Being a 3d modeller and walking down the street is like an overload for the senses, i get alot of inspiration for things when imagining how certain things are made (like the cracks between the pavement and the dirt buildup) and you get all these things for free with photogrammetry which is so good!
