welcome back. I am learning blender and just yesterday I've watched all your content and been wondering why there's no new tutorials!
@BathroomTile2 жыл бұрын
Loving the videos so far. Just want to maybe clarify some things that might help beginners understand some concepts better, or expand on the effect further. So, "normal map" is a different kind of bump map that instead of using a 1-channel black-to-white scale to define height, uses a more complicated 3-channel approach which results in that familiar purple-blue texture. So both are technically bump maps, but when we think of a grayscale one, we just call it a bump map, not a normal map. On that note, even though you can always end up inverting it in Blender, in a bump map white actually relates to maximum height, and black to minimum height. In this case we're just working with raising a slight bump, but if you're working with bumps and crevices on a surface, you'll usually want the base height of the surface be represented by a 50% gray. That way you can both paint in holes and peaks into the bump map. Another thing I'd do in this case, I'd probably blur the bump map a little to simulate a smoother transition in the bump. If you have a sharp transition from black to white in a bump map, you'll notice it's hard to tell the effect. since a bump map simulates height through shading and not by actually raising a physical bump in the model, if you have a sharp line between two heights, it will have no way of showing you the transition between the two to simulate the effect. That's why it's always good to blur your bumps a little so that it creates a slope and allows light to hit that virtual slope and create highlights and shadows. Onto roughness, yes, white means matte and black means glossy, but it's very rare that you'd find a 100% matte or a 100% glossy material IRL. So you'd probably want to put a ramp node in between the roughness texture and the material and reassign those binary black/white values to more realistic values. Usually a value of 0.6 is already pretty matte, no need to turn it up to 1 (pure white). If you look at a very rough, matte object in real life and look at its surface at a shallow angle, it will still reflect light, it's never 100% rough. Anyway, I understand this is a very cut and dry, easy to follow tutorial that doesn't delve into the technical stuff to keep it simple. Just wanted to provide some extra info in case anyone wants to learn more about the subjects. Good work, keep making videos!

hey this is sick i completely forget about addons in blender and i will for sure try this one out, we love seeing intra again also one more addition; an alternate way of using this b&w map is using it in a mix shader and using like another material for example a glowing one, or a super shiny glitter one you know?
